I was considering TIW for our next trip because we may make 2 trips in 2014. But I noticed that many resort QS locations like captain cooks and the contempo cafe are not included. Any experiences with TIW and counter service locations at resorts.

Most of the CS locations that take the card are at the values and some of the moderates. There are a few places at AK that take it but for the most part, its TS meals that are covered.

I know Artist Point at Saratoga Springs takes it because I've used it and I think I've used it at The Mara in AKL but don't quote me on that last one.

ESPN club on the boardwalk takes it too.

I don't know of any QS in the parks that take it. Believe me, I've tried. ;)

AP at SSR takes it because SSR didn't have TC when it opened.

Most QS at DAK takes it ( inc. Flametree) because theres not enough TS at DAK

I've used TIW on Beignets at PORFQ, but not sure about riverside.
TIW also works at values

There are QS locations at DAK that offer the TiW discount.

Unfortunately, Mara does NOT take it or we would save a lot more money on our trips to AKV! :)

Artist Point takes it because originally there was not a TS at SSR. Mara does not take it. Most all of the CS at AK take the card as well as the value resort food courts and POFQ food court. No other CS takes the card. It is usable at most all bars however.

Just to add on, using TIW at those counter service places generate great bang for the buck due to not having the 18% gratuity added on. Thus it is a "true" 20% discount.

You always get a true 20% discount on your meals. Aren't you going to tip for table service?

Not 18%. Disney made that decision for me (us).

You are not going to tip at least 18%? You can always add more money to the tip if the server did an exceptional job. And if you felt they ignored you and did not earn the 18%, you can ask the supervisor to reduce it.

Probably not. 15% is customary and most tip aps have 15% as a default setting. If the server is good I leave more.

Just a little history of the TiW, and why most counter service places do not accept the card.

The TiW, originally the Disney Dining Experience card, was only available to Florida residents for many years. This was to encourage locals to dine at Disney for their special nights out, while entertaining guests that had not been to the parks that day or having a business meeting. Those activities generally would not involve a counter service type location. When the DDE was expanded a few years ago to include AP holders, regardless of their state of residence it continued to be for table service venues. When the card changed to TiW and eventually became available to DVC non-AP holders, the counter service locations at AK and at resorts without a table service restaurant venue were added.

You live on LI and are tipping 15%? I lived there most of my life(have been gone 20years now) and was tipping more that 15% years ago.
We usually tip 20% so we save 2% on every check now.:)

I have to agree. I lived in NYC and had my ex's family who all lived in LI. This was 1999-2003 and they told me that it is customary to tip 20% for good service and more for excellent service. So I'm surprised to hear its only 15%. Not saying its wrong just surprised is all.

The TiW can be purchased by Florida Residents, DVC Members, and Annual Passholders. It gives a 20% discount on food and beverages (including alcoholic) at most tables service and some quick services location on WDW for up to ten people at a time. When you purchase it, the card is valid for the remainder of the current month plus 13 full months.

Here is a working example, using $100.00 as the original bill to make the math show up easily. Note this is for Table Service. At Counter Service there is no gratuity added.

100.00 - Original Menu Amount
*20.00 - Discount
*80.00 - Subtotal
*18.00 - Gratuity Added based on $100
**5.20 - Sales Tax on $80
103.20 - Final amount charged, takes into consideration discount, gratuity and tax.

Without TiW Discount (and still figuring 18% Gratuity)

100.00 - Original Menu Amount
*18.00 - Gratuity
**6.50 - Sales Tax on $100
124.50 - Total

$21.30 - Savings using TiW Card.

(Note - At Victoria and Albert's the added gratuity is 20% instead of 18%.)
* Ignore the asterisks; they are there only so the columns/numbers line up properly.

For the complete list of locations and the rules, go to www.tablesinwonderland.com which is the Official Disney site.

Based on the current pricing, the following is the break-even point for menu pricing (assuming you will routinely give an 18% tip):
AP Holder or DVC Member ($100) is $469.48
Resident (not AP holder) ($125) is $586.85
Both of the above take into consideration that the Sales Tax is also discounted.

No, people in NYC don't tip anymore than anywhere else
