My DS purchased an AP last summer which he is using for our trip this May. He is 18. Does anyone know if he can purchase a TIW membership which could be used for our entire party(6)? I'm confused on if he needs to be 21. Otherwise I'll just purchase one with my DVC membership.
You have to be 21 or older to purchase a TiW card. This is because the discount is good on alcohol and the official TiW policy is the card holder is the one who has to pay the bill.
The TiW card can be purchased at any Guest Relations location at WDW. Guest Relations windows are location both inside and outside of each theme park and there are two locations at Downtown Disney.

Very interesting. On more than one occasion, guests we invite to join us in a villa will pick up the tab at dinner as a thank you for the room and still get our TIW discount.

We have had guests do this for us, too, with no problem. I was going to ask the same question as OP, since DD 17 has an AP this year but we do not. I'm going to give it a try to save the 25 bucks; if not--we'll do the DVC thing.

Guest Relations will not sell a TiW card to someone under the age of 21. Even though the official policy is the card holder pays, the restaurant managers that approve the discount don't seem to care as long as the check is paid.
