Tables in Wonderland- Yay or Nay

Ahhh the alcohol is a very good point! So the AP and DVC discounts do not apply to alcohol? My numbers for the discount were coming in very close (after hitting $750 on TiW) but I think its because I left in the alcohol when figuring the DVC/AP discount.

You can't leave out the alcohol..... :yay:

Especially on a kidless vacation! :woohoo:

Am I correct, DVC/AP do not provide discounts on alcohol at TS?

100% correct, not a plugged nickel. And frankly, if they add 18% tip, where I usually tip 20%, so be it, 18% it is, unless the service was stellar!

Thank you!

That chaps me too but as a former server/bartender, I totally understand why they add the gratuity when applicable. We just add on in addition to the 18% and tip on the amount pre discount.

Also be sure you understand for everyone at your table to get the discount, you must be the person paying for everyone.

Dense question: I am thinking about getting the TiW card (we're purchasing AP shortly) but DH usually pays for everything (yes, I could get the card for him but then he'd have to remember to take it with him and take it out, etc. etc. - there's a reason I hang onto tickets and itinerary). If I charge it using MB (which goes onto his CC), does that count as "me" paying?

Yes as they don't know (or care) whose credit card is connected to the room account. My son (who is 11) likes to "pay" for the bill but let's be real on where the money comes from ;)

I've actually "paid" a bill that really paid by someone with a different last name.

I charged it to the room. Then my friend went to the front desk to pay off her charges, including the charge for the meal.

We used an AP discount, but it is the same idea.

Dont forget if you drive or rent a car, valet charges are waived as well if you use TIW for dining and present the receipt to the Valet which is a considerable savings.

Technically there are 3 places you CAN get a discount on alcohol with an AP.

Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show
Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue
Mickey's Backyard BBQ

Beer and wine are included with price of admission. I LOVE the 8:30 HDDMR show!

We've never had any issues with TiW (in my name) and my wife using her MB. Done it plenty of times.

After all this planning and math, I finally brought DH in on the discount action and he kindly reminded me he gets a CM discount at WDW not just at the Disneyland Resort. Looks like no TiW for us.

Everyone's math is going to come out differently :). I can only relate what WE do. AP and DVC, so our cost per card is $150.

TIW, every year, 12 years. We also visit 2x per year on a regular schedule, and have figured out how to get 3 trips per card, by carefully timed purchases.

DW and I go to a SIG every evening, 8 days per trip, twice per year. Our documented savings are in excess of $500 per year, 12 years running.
Now, we are a COUPLE - children are grown. We almost ALWAYS tip 20% (generally add on to the 18% built in TIW Tip). So really? we pretty much get the system to pay most of the Tip that we would have paid anyway :).

Really, the DDP is better for "Chicken Finger, Mac & cheese" children. You must run your math, for YOUR Family.

All personal opinion - I'm not necessarily right, no one else is necessarily wrong.

I sat today and did the math for us. New to DVC, new AP holders. What was looking like 2 trips this year has ballooned to probably 4. I priced out DDP for me, and two others for our July trip at 1400. Yikes. I looked at where our ADRs are and all of them have 20% with TiW. We tip 20% standard anyway so to us the tip is not a big deal. I looked at some of the calculators and for us to break even it would be about 750 or so. Easy sell for us. TiW over DDP.

I was just thinking about this today....

If I did the math and was on the fine line of saving money or breaking even with the TiW, I PERSONALLY would still get it for the convenience of not having to remember what stinking card I need to take to any particular meal.

I wish I could get an all-in-one AP card that had my picture on it and showed I had TiW too. That way I didn't have to carry around an AP, ID and TiW card. Not saying that three credit card sized items are too much to lug around, but I like throwing my wallet in the safe when I arrive and leave it there until we leave.
