Hi.

What would be the reasoning to purchase the $50 second TiW card after I purchase the
first card? Who would I give it to, if it's just my dh and me on our account?

Thank you.

The TIW is only issued to 1 person. If you and your DH ever travel separately, you might want to buy the 2nd card for your spouse to be able to use the discount. Otherwise, the spouse who is not listed on the card could not use the discount.

There is just one name on the card, so only that person can use it. If one of you will be traveling without the other, it might make sense to get the second card. My DH and I don't typically purchase two.

We HAVE gotten two once when my FIL got a card, and he bought the second card and put it in my name, so that way my parents had a card, and so did my DH and I. That worked well, because my DH and I stayed a full week longer than my parents, so we did not have to buy our own full-priced card. I am not sure that is technically in the spirit of the second card policy, but we didn't lie to the CM, just asked for a second card in my name. We were prepared for the CM to deny that request.

Thank you. But is it correct, you and your parents are both DVC members?
Thanks!

Thank you. This is what I thought. I travel to Disney without my dh sometimes but he doesn't go without me LOL so just trying to figure it all out.
Thank you again.

There is one other circumstance where it could be beneficial to have a spouse card...if you travel with a large group. The TiW card is only good for up to 10 people, so if you were traveling with a group larger than 10, you could use both cards (have to pay separately using both cards) to get the discount for everyone.

There are only two reasons to get one:

1) You are traveling with a party of more than 10 people and you want TIW to apply to everyone's meals
2) Your spouse sometimes travels to WDW without you (if the TIW card has your name on it, it is supposed to be used only by you.)

Doesn't matter. DH is the member; I'm an associate, and could get a spouse card.

Their potential hangup was that it was a parent and adult child, but Disney apparently didn't mind.

Correct. The terms of TiW specifically state that "Both members must live at the same address and be 21 years of age or older".

Husbands and wives (spouses, partners, etc.) do not always share the same dinner table at every meal.

Maybe I want beer & nachos with my Dad at ESPN, while the wife goes to lunch with Grandma.

These folks could use two cards if they visit Disney often enough.

I am a TiW holder. When DD (over 21) went to Disney on DCP (spent a year) I purchased her the second card. She was able to use it for drinks and with more flexibility than her CM discount. Some places excluded meals that she wanted due to scheduling, but the CM discount could not be used then. I got it for her right when she started so she made good use over the course of the year.

Thank you. I know I read that the card cannot be used for more than 10 people but I can tell you that twice over two different years, during Spring break in March,
I have used the card in multiple locations (Via Napoli, Paridiso 37, 50s Prime Time and other places) for a party of over 20. When my ds
was in HS, his baseball team played at WWS. Everytime the team went out as a full team with parents and players, we had one bill and
the server always took my card and discounted the full amount on the full bill. It was awesome, especially since I used the card on my
own for my own trips...the parents loved it LOL

Anyway, thanks all about the card but I guess I only need one.
