Table Service/Take Out & DP

When we stayed at the Poly a few years back, I was able to walk up to the Kona Cafe and order meals to go. I also was able to get those wonderful shrimp wontons that are history from Ohana at the bar to go. That being said, can you use any of your table service credits at restaurants and order the meals to go?
I asked at the 50s last Jan when we were there and they told me no. However, if I got a table, ordered the food, then was served the food, I could immediately ask for a box. Where's the logic in that?

Once you sit at the table, it's assumed you will be tipping. Also, you're more likely to order additional food/beverages beyond what the plan provides (appetizer for standard DP, alcoholic drinks, etc.)
