I have a question about the Disney Dining plan. If I have a table service meal without my two children, What will happen to thier credits? Can I get thier meals to go? It's not like there will be another opportunity where the kids will be at a table service resturant without me? I was thinking about planning a night out with my husband but don't want to lose those meals for the children.

Disney table service restaurants generally do not provide meals to go. You can ask, but be prepared for the answer to be no.

If you have table service credits left over for your children, you can plan extra table service meals to use them (paying cash for the adults) or use them for counter service. Children's table service credits can be used only for children's menu meals, so the adults can't use them unless they want to eat a child's meal.

If you are at a resort with room service, you can look into using them for room service (for a child's meal only, and room service is two credits per meal.)

Are you sure about this? When we were staying at the Boardwalk Inn, we were on the DDP and I used our DDP to go at Big River. The plan was much different back then as well so maybe this has changed.

It's worth asking...I've seen people do this (table next to us were taking a meal back for grandma who was watching the kids in the villa while the parents went out...that was at Captain's Grille at Yacht Club.)

But I've also been behind people arguing at the check-in podium that since they don't want to wait 60 minutes for a table the restaurant should let them order a meal to-go. The guy at the podium (Kona Cafe, the Polynesian) told them "sorry, m'am, we do not have a to-go service. We cannot take to-go orders."

So I don't know if the difference was in the first case, the people were already sitting at a table and being served anyway...so they were treating the 3rd meal as if the person was there & just wanted to take leftovers? While in the 2nd case, they had no food-counter there at the front to order from...no waitresses working check-in podium...and no way to take/make up the orders at that place in the restaurant?

In general, Disney TS restaurants don't do meals to go. There may be some that will do it if asked, but there's no way to tell which ones will or won't until you ask. Whether it's allowed is probably also going to depend on who you ask and when you ask. Big River is not a Disney restaurant and things may be different there. Apparently ESPN will do to go orders also.
