How do they decide on the seating for dinner?

On our first cruise we had the late seating so this time we've requested the early seating.

Do they always put you with another party or can you request a smaller table for 4?

There were 3 of us last year and we requested a private table and there was just the 3 of us.

It seems to be the luck of the draw. We are two people and we prefer to have lots of dining companions, although we don't make any specific requests. Our table size has range from huge to being alone at a table. Usually we are seated with other adults, but around the holidays we've had kids at our table too (I know that makes some people cringe, but personally we've really enjoyed it...we've lucked out and had some very well-behaved youngsters at the table, including a three year old girl whose manners put most adults to shame!).

You can certainly request a table size; DCL does their best to honor the request but it's not guaranteed.
