A friend's daughter married her fiance in a hurry last year cos he is a Marine and was being sent to Iraq. He has just returned home (safe and sound) and now they want to have a small wedding to renew their vows among their friends and family. They are on a very limited budget and we are needing any inexpensive ideas to use as table decorations for the reception. It will be held in late November (but she doesn't want Fall colors) Any ideas from you creative DIS'ers would be appreciated. Thanks.

I like to hollow out a pumpkin and use it as a vase for flowers. It looks great with not only sunflowers and such, but also with purple flowers. I usually stick in a few cattails as well.

Go to a craft store and buy some small glass bowls. Fill them with colored marbles and water and put a floating candle on top.

We used that exact idea, Beth, for my DSIL's 25th anniversary party that we threw this summer!!!!

We went to Michael's Craft Store and bought rose bowls, which are basically little round vases. We put silver and blue decorative rocks in the bottom (blue was their wedding color and silver for the silver anniversary), and got a silver floating candle in the shape of a rose, and then tied silver ribbon around the neck of the vase, with 2 little wedding rings attached. They were very cute, we got a lot of compliments, and they weren't all that expensive overall, probably about $5.00 apiece total (as opposed to $50 apiece for a floral arrangement). It was very elegant at ngith when we lit the candles too.

Gotta have flowers!

I'd do a small glass bowl (round fishbowl shape from craft store...I think Michaels calls them "ivy bowls" ) with a small arrangement of fresh flowers. If she's not into fall colors, white is always appropriate for a wedding, or whatever colors she's going with. Set the glass bowl atop a mirror tile (from a craft store or home improvement store), and place several votives or tea lights around the bowl on the mirror. It will reflect even more light.

I've done this on white linen tablecloths, with white napkins, white flowers and greenery, silver napkin rings and flatware, mirror adds more silver, glass candleholders to allow light to escape, and then sprinkled the table with silver confetti to add more sparkle. Easy. Classic. Elegant.

For better prices on flowers, see if your local floral wholesaler is open to the public! MANY are and you can save a bundle getting them there!!

Good luck!

Get a picture of the both of them in black and white, then put it in a pretty, small photo album and set it in the middle of the table, then sprinkle colorful shiney confetti around it.

For my sisters wedding shower I bought white roses at Costco for $12.99 for two dozen, I think I got 4 dozen total, and put 6-8 in a vase on each table, they were beautiful, and since then I have heard that you can order them on a certain day in bulk, so they are fresh for your event. I think I got the vases at Michael's for a couple of dollars each.

Almost forgot I did get a bit of Babysbreath to.

If you do the rose bowls with candles, get the ones that have a pattern to them--a swirl or such. Get mirror tiles to put underneath. It really reflects and sparkles. You could do this on guest tables and use flowers on the wedding party table.

Definately get from Sam's or Costco - i just did the flowers for my brother's wedding for $300- this was all the bouteneirres(13) corsages (5), bouquets (9) pew decorations (25) and tables (25) - using daisies and roses -

There is a website called the Knot - www.theknot.com and you can find so many creative ideas there - check their message boards

For his rehearsal dinner - I ordered glass vases off ebay - ($20 for 25 shipped) and lucky bamboo ($30) and put on the vase a tag that said a lucky pair with their names and wedding date - this was EASY and CHEAP and everyone loved them! Here is a close up of how I put their names on - but I don't ahve a pic of the whole thing
