Is there such thing as a free upgrade to concierge? :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

No. Really. Just curious... :rotfl2:

Thankyou. Thankyou verrry much.

I dont know, but at least you got your title right?? Just kidding. I would like to know the answer too.

We got one once. I think it was 1996 or around there. We had booked what was then the Fall Fantasy. You got a breakfast each day of your vacation, just about anywhere on property, including Character ones. The only one not included was the Castle if I remember correctly.

Anyway we originally booked 5 nights at the Poly and were going to stay offsite the first 4 nights, we then decided to stay the whole time at the Poly, but for whatever reason, they couldn't put us in the same room the whole time. So we had a 4 night stay and then a 5 night stay with having to change rooms. I was kind of put off but just rolled with the punches. Anyway they indeed made up check out and check back in. When we checked back in we were UPGRADE to concierge.

Listen Disney made out on that Upgrade, we've never stayed at the Poly again without PAYING for concierge LOL.

Honestly, after reading these boards for years now, it does seem to happen once in a very great while...and usually unasked for (OP states that they were spontaneously upgraded to concierge upon checking in). However, it is extremely rare and I would probably only happen during low hotel occupancy...but I don't know the specifics. :wizard:

For the record when it happened to us it was in early September so I think you're right about it being the slow time of the year.

My sister and her 2 DDs got one at the WL about 3 years ago. She was so surprised, she thought our parents did it for her without her knowing. She didn't realize that she was the beneficiary of pixie dust! :wizard:

It can happen but I would not count on it. A guy a work with had a package booked for a water view room at the BC last year and he said when he was checking in they told him they were all out of regular water view rooms so they upgrade him to concierge. My theory is he was paying a full price package through a TA so even though it was an "upgrade" at the end of the day Disney was not really losing out.

so...if you pay for concierge, what upgrade options would you have?? :confused3

Last year my DH (a disney maniac) checked into the BC for a golf trip and was given a key to activate the elevator to use the concierge level services, but alas no room upgrade to that floor. He did however book standard and receive a water view.

My friend and her family got upgraded to lodge concierge this past December at the GF! She was booked in garden view, but made NO room requests or building requests. She booked the room herself using a room only code. Early December is a little slower, and I really believe the no requests gave them an edge. We've always stayed in a deluxe, and have received an upgrade to a better view once or twice, but never to concierge. We upgraded once to concierge at check-in at WL by paying an additional fee per night. Now we are hooked and book concierge every time!

Congrats to all who have had an unexpected upgrade. This is true pixie dust. It annoys the heck out of me when I read someone boo-hooing over not getting an upgrade after asking for one. Do people expect an upgrade to first class after booking coach, or does the butcher upgrade from ground round to filet mignon?
Do you guys remember in school when the teacher said that those who beg to go first will go last? Anyway, sorry for the rant.

My mother, dd's and I were upgraded to concierge at the Polynesian in October 2003!! It was right after the Hawaii building opened up after refurbishment so I'm sure it was just a matter of having a lot of rooms in that building empty!! I booked with a castmember discount and didn't expect any upgrade whatsoever so I was totally flabbergasted when he told me what building we were in. I even told him that he had to be mistaken!!

Anyway, it was a wonderful experience that I'm sure was a once in a lifetime opportunity!!!

We did at the Poly but it was because we were locked out of our room for over an hour. It was after coming back from the parks at night & we were so tired. They put us in a concierge standard room while we were waiting for them to get us back in our room. And said they would up grade us. But the Standard view was horrible so I asked if we could keep our Pool/lagoon view & just use the Concierge.... we were right next door.

YES at the Beach Club in 2000, we were on the Grand Plan that trip and they upgraded us on arrival. I was surprised, when we arrived the bellmen asked our names and we were taken upstairs right away...

So it does or "did" happen!

I've never been upgraded at disney. But I have found the upgrading talk interesting in the idea that upgrades are done when lots of rooms are available. I have been given free upgrades at other hotels (lake tahoe) and car rentals. These only happened cause i checked in or got the car so late in the day everything at my level had already been taken. So this seems to run on a totally different philosophy.
