I was up at 5.30, It’s always easy to get up when there is something as exciting as a trip to Florida on. Theresa had a bad night, she had got up about 2ish as Maddie had come home for the weekend to see “New Moon” with her friends and that’s the time she rolled in. Cal rolled in even later. Tilly is in kennels so the cat was taking great pleasure in getting reacquainted with her cat flap, she was in and out of it all night. It’s directly below our bedroom so Theresa was not best pleased.
BIL Peter picked us up just after 7 to take us to the airport. I’d done online check-in the day before so we only had to drop the bags.

We headed to Frankie & Benny’s for breakfast; Theresa opted for the traditional and I wanted the American. I can’t get enough of those pancakes.

After breakfast Theresa bought a few bits and pieces in Next & Accessorize and we both bought a magazine to read on the flight. That turned out to be a waste, I still haven’t opened mine.:guilty:

We moved over to airside and had a quick walk around the shops before we realised our gate number was up on the boards. Gate number 17 here we come.

Our plane was ”Virginia Plain” which we were very happy about as she has the games console seats and we had plenty of good films to choose from, I won’t say the flight went quickly but it certainly helps when you are being entertained.
Theresa had ordered the Asian Vegetarian option which she said was very nice. I had the Chicken & mash which wasn’t as bad as I’d been expecting after all the bad reports on the dis.

We did get the mid flight ice cream which, again helps to break the long flight.

Tea was served and Theresa’s veggie option was a salad wrap with apple slices and grapes.
I don’t like tomatoes or coleslaw so I declined and just had the cookie.

The crew were running a competition to keep the kids entertained. They had to draw a picture of a member of the cabin crew and the captain was to pick the winner. I told Theresa if her sister had been on board it would have kept her quiet for hours and her son’s picture would have been a work of art. She won the schools Easter egg competition for several years in a row. I think the school was pleased when her two had moved up. :lmao:

Customs and bag pick up were quite quick, (right hand lane).:thumbsup2
We were asked if we had any produce to which I replied yes, the officer looked up and I said English tea and a packet of biscuits. He smiled and said no fruits, vegetables or dairy, then you’re fine, have a great holiday. Nice man.
We carried our own bags on the train and we soon had our car. There didn’t seem to be much of a hard sell on the car upgrade this time which was better. We had a Kia Spectra, black with four doors, plenty big enough for the 2 of us.

I’d planned the route from the airport to our accommodation and we’d decided it would be better to take the toll road as it was the easiest and most direct route after a long journey and having to drive in the dark. We could see how people miss the first toll booths; you have to pull over to the right into what I would best describe as a lay-by with toll booths across it. Normally you’d only go over there if you were taking an off ramp.

I found “Barefootin’ In The Keys” (our accommodation) easily as I’d more or less driven the route at street level on Google maps.

We checked in and our condo was perfect for us. Nice and quiet, mini kitchen with the essential coffee maker!

I was feeling hungry so we had a quick visit to IHOP; Philly Cheese Steak for me and a Chicken Steak for Theresa. We were both too full for our favourite dessert. $17 + tip.

It’s good to be back. :goodvibes

Sounds like a good start to your holiday. The photos of Barefoot in the Keys look really nice. My friend and her family are staying there this Xmas. Usually they do I- Drive but fancied a change...... and of course it had to be somewhere they could walk to a bar :woohoo:

I love reading your reports, Tony. How true to life is the colour of your condo pictures? As I think we've just painted our living room the same colour (called beeswax but is really a yellowish magnolia.)

Pretty close I think Libby.

Great condo, Tony and great Old Town pics...

great start to your trip, love the cars; never seen those.

The last photo says it all for me - you have the look of a man who is completely contented, at home in his surroundings, and glad to be back in a favourite place :cloud9:.

Looking forward to reading more :)

Great start Tone, you're putting me to shame by having got so many days up already :sad2:

Still, maybe I'll manage to get my next day up before you finish yours :rotfl:

Looking forward to reading more :)

A great start! We flew Virgin-Mco on the 27th Nov (we had Vaginia plain on the way back) and found them to be fine too.

Looking forward to the rest.

Hi Tony. Your reports are keeping me company during lunch today. Hope the rest of your trip went as smoothyly as the beginning. IHOP--a sure sign you'd arrived!

A great start to your trip report - look forward to reading the rest when I get back from work tonight! :thumbsup2
