We are hoping to eat here on our Dec vacation. I'm not sure which day we will be at DTD. Do we need ADR's or can we just do walk up? Do they give you the little buzzers to tell you when your table is ready? My daughter wants to do the Build a Dino. How much does this cost and do they accept the Landry's gift certificate for this? Thanks.

You do not have to have a reservation but it would be to your benefit. Without one you MAY have to wait 30-60 minutes. Not sure about the buzzers because I have never had to wait.

The build-a-dinos I am not sure they will take the Landrys giftcard as Build a Dino is owned by a different company.

in June this past summer. It was a Monday night. We had "priority seating" at T-Rex. When we arrived at 6:00 there was probably a fifteen minute wait. When we left it was up to over thirty. If you're going in the latter part of December or on the weekend, I would definitely have a priority seating time (T-Rex' version of ADR). If you don't want to tie yourself down to a time, you can try calling the restaurant directly. You'll likely have more options that way. They release only some of the seats to Disney and more people think to call Disney Dining than the restaurant.

The Build a Dino is in the low twenty dollar range. The price varies by type of dino. Of course clothing and accessories are extra. They also have smaller pre-stuffed versons of the dinos in the six to ten dollar range. My kid bought both.

We were just there on Halloween. I would definitely go with ADRs for this one. When we arrived there was a huge line but we were seated quickly with our 12PM ADR...others had to wait.

The Build-A-Dino is exactly what the PP said...the $18-$20 range with the accessories adding to the cost. We were going to do one, but my DS wasn't feeling too hot that day and didn't want to sit around waiting. It looks neat though.

No clue about the gift card...sorry!

We walked up on a Friday night at 6 p.m. in Oct. and got seated right away. When we left at 730 the wait was around 30 minutes.

Can anyone please tell me how late the restaurant is open (on a Sunday night or a Wednesday night, if that makes a difference)?

Also, would it be tacky, or "not allowed" to just order maybe appetizers and a dessert instead of a full meal? We'd be a party of 2 adults and 4 kids--so we'd each order a beverage and then maybe split 2 or 3 appetizers, then split one or two desserts....I was thinking if we went during hours that aren't so crowded (like later at night) it might be more acceptable, if we weren't taking up a table during their very busy time--or maybe there is no such thing as "not so crowded" there?;)

Thanks!

About the gift card, I would say it's a no. Landry's doesn't own Build-a-Dino, Build-a-Bear does, but they do accept the build-a-bear bear bucks. On Sundays, T-Rex is open until 10:30, and on a Wednesday it is the same, it's open an hour later on Fridays and Saturdays. ^ About the appetizers, I wouldn't say it would be tacky, anywhere in Disney they usually bend over backwards to please, so I wouldn't anticipate any problems :upsidedow

Awesome, Thank you! We will be doing Disney Quest on a Wednesday night; since they close at 10, if the kids aren't already exhausted maybe we will stop by T Rex for a little bite to eat! :)

I don't think that's tacky at all. We're thinking of ordering an appetizer and entree and splitting them.

Also, for anyone going to T-Rex, there's a $10 off $25 printable coupon floating around somewhere. I can't find the link, but it was posted here or the budget board recently. When I called T-Rex to make our reservation, I asked about the coupon (it says Rainforest Cafe) and the guy said they honor it since they're owned by the same parent company.

We did an ADR.
I used my LANDRY gift card last trip 8/09.
can't help with dino build, but we did buy a GEODE and cracked it for a BEAUTIFUL specimen to take home, was cheap if I recall. MY ds really liked the restaurant.....good food too, nice change from RF cafe, which he also likes.
I really liked that "ice looking" room myself, at TR
Have a great trip! :wizard:

Thanks for the information. I'm trying to decide how many gift certificates to cash in for. I guess I'll be calling to get ADR's. Thanks again.

T-Rex is a cool restaurant and is a good idea to have a ressie, but if you have to walk up and wait, it is worth seeing and eating at. :thumbsup2

thanks dioxide for posting the link. we are leaving in 2 weeks and have a priority seating for wed the 25th. ds8 is going to love it.

we went this past Thursday.. We had a ressie for 7pm. We got our table within 5 minutes..but for people without a ressie, it was a 40 minute wait...It was very very crowded. We sat in the Coral Reef part..i also really liked the ice room...That is where the restroom is . We are a family of five and ordered 2 kids meals. I had the bronto burger and my husband had ribs. My dd12 had a cheesesteak. We also ordered two beers each and got the dessert. Our bill was 125.00 if that helps. We had a 25.00 dollar gift card ..so it ended up being 100.00.

I don't think it's bad to order two appetizers..They are not cheap. I think one of them was 14.99...which was more than my burger. I wouldn't think you were doing anything wrong ordering two appetizers and a dessert. We ordered the chocolate distinction..it was great..a lot of dessert. We had to bring some of it back to our room.

When we went to TRex I ordered an appetizer--in restaurants like that, I often order appetizers as my entree as I just prefer them. Never even crossed my mind that it might be tacky--I do it at home, too. I say go for it! :goodvibes

If you have the Safari Club you don't need to worry about any ADR or wait times. Just show your card for priority seating. This worked for us on several occasions at T-Rex and RFC. In all cases there was a huge wait of people sitting and standing around and each time we were directed to the line where they seat you.

We called for a reservation the day before wanting to eat there and they said that they didn't have any. Walked in the next day without a reservation and nearly every table in the restaurant was empty. We were seated immediately. Try a walk up if you can't get a reservation.

We were there this past Sunday night around 6:30 and didn't have a reservation. I had tried to get one but they said they were all booked, accepting walk-ups only. It was sooo crowded outside and inside, I was afraid we'd have to wait forever. Gave our name, party of 7, too. Only had a 15 minute wait and seated right at that time.

So even if you're doing walk-up and it looks crazy crowded, try it anyway, you may be surprised!

for DH Coffey and Pirate Me. When you say you called and were told there were no reservations, did you call Disney Dining or T-Rex?
