I'm still playing around (changed my ADRs so many times and bugged you guys so much here)....but need you guys opinion again.

On my last day, I don't have park pass and my flight is late so eventhough there's alot of nice restaurants in resorts with great food, nothing seem "unique" or it's only open for dinner. I need place to eat for lunch and I thought restaurant in DS would be perfect since we can also do last minute shopping.

For non-park restaurants, I already have Boma, Sanaa, Homecoming, Kona (for breakfast), and Raglan Road. Much as I would love to try Trail's End's brunch I decided on T-Rex for uniqueness. We can go to Rainforest in Las Vegas or at Disneyland but we don't have T-rex in CA.

I understand there's different types of rooms in T-Rex?

1. Which room would you recommend for 2 adults?
2. Any recommendations on food? I understand it's not going to be the best food.

Thank you again. You guys are the greatest! :)

Okay. I did little research and some people seem to like "Ice room". Is it the best room?
We eat at T-Rex each trip to Disney. We've eaten in the ice room a few times. We like it, but some people are bothered by the lighting. Maybe take a look before you request the ice room. We've had no problems with it (it's our favourite room) but some people complain with the noise and lighting combined.
I like the chicken sandwich wrapped in pizza dough. DH likes fish and chips and DD's love the ribs. Servings are quite large. We always enjoy our time at T-Rex. Have fun!

@OurLaughingPlace, thank you so much for replying. Do I just request for Ice room when I get there? Will we have problem getting it?

I know people complain about the food but as long as it's edible I'm okay with it. I just want to try somewhere different since we don't have any in CA.

The changing lighting in the ice room has given some guests headaches and even nausea. Obviously, plenty of people have no problem and even prefer the room. It's probably the most unique, much of the rest of the theming seems a bit sub--par after being in the parks.

But then some people love T-Rex. Others (including my family and me) hate it. I will be interesting to here your experience.

@maltdizzy, what was it about T-Rex you hated it? food? Have you eaten at Rainforest? If you did, how would you compare to Rainforest?

We ate there this week and thought the food was pretty good. I had Bruchetta & Jurassic Salad. My friend said her fries were great, the burger was "meh" - seemed like a frozen party & it wasn't quite done enough for her. Third friend said tar pit shrimp seemed pre-packaged/frozen (it was an add on side) but BBQ sandwich, fries, salad, onion straws were all excellent.

As far as rooms, they're all neat. The ice cave seemed pretty cool (literally and figuratively - it was cooler than our room, which had the "kitchen of fire.") But we were content where we were and were able to wander and photograph when we were done. It was definitely loud, though!!

HTH!

MANY do not like the Ice Room and usually tell everyone to avoid it. I get nauseous just walking through it to the bathroom. It changes colors and EVERYTHING in the room; ice, table, food, you will be all pink or all blue ...... ugh. Cool to see, but I couldn't eat in there. Any other areas are just fine.

Well, I didn't want to post a list because many people love it and I don't want to detract from their or your dining experience...but since you asked...
  • Long wait (this is WDW, this can excused, even circumvented with a reservation)
  • Louder and more crowded than an in-park TS (okay, it's WDW...sure...)
  • Poor service...really, really poor. Rarely saw a waitress, long wait times to order, to get food, to pay.
  • Poor food quality, akin to a school cafeteria. Things seemed like they all came out of a food service box. Can't remember the full meal...but ribs and pasta were ordered
  • The prices averaged higher than some of our meals in the parks, which was kindof insulting considering the poor quality of the service and food
I've eaten at Rainforest Cafes through the years (used to have one local about 20 years ago). The idea of eating always surpassed the experience of eating there. For me, it never really lives up to its potential. We consider T-Rex below Rainforest Cafe. Overall, we've had some bad dining experiences at WDW, many were just inconsistent experiences, but the two that stick with us as the worst were T-Rex and the The ABC Commissary. There may have been a mild case of food poisoning at T-Rex, one way or another it was a rough night.

But....many people love it.:confused3

@hopper Fan, thank you for the pictures. How did you like the food?
@maltdizzy, thank you for your honest opinion. I guess if we do go for sure, I'll not expect too much from food and better warn my son. :) He loves photography so I thought this is perfect place for him to take pictures.

The food is fine, it's not a high-end restaurant after all, but no different to Rainforest Cafe or somewhere like Chilli's etc in my opinion. Ribs are ok, lasagne was ok, salads were ok - none of it is amazing, but its not awful if you go in expecting basic stuff.

I personally didn't like the ice room because of the lighting as PP stated but it is a wonderful room!! The restaurant is just a fun experience, probably not somewhere you'll go again (unless you have kids with you!)

Thank you. I will not go in expecting great food. As long as its edible I'm okay. Last time I went to Rainforest was when my sons were children (they are now 22 and 28) so I doubt if I'll be at T-Rex anytime soon (or WDW). Just got lucky my son decided he wanted to do Food & Wine 1/2 marathon and is nice to take his mama. :)

As far as rooms look around... you can see them all from the front we do not have a preference enjoyed them all..
The food... I think it is better then Rainforest-- HOWEVER my rule is to always order the basics which is what I always do at TREX.. in other words Sandwich, burger and similar. At rainforest I broke that rule and ordered a steak and shrimp combo.. not inedible by any means just way overpriced and no quality what so ever... you can do far better at any Disney resort or park.. But I also recall having a not so good burger at RF... from what I have learned for all them RF TREX and Yak and Yeti.. stay at the lower end of the menu the food is decent go higher and you will be disappointed.

Been several times - at in four different areas so far.
- We've never really waited long to be seated but I've always had ADR.
- NEVER had good service, they either are severely understaffed (always) or indifferent. Most the time I have to practically tackle them for a drink refill.
- Food is quite average and now we stick to the burgers and such. The dessert was a once and done, while we order Volcano at RFC regularly.
- LOUD, and when the meteor goes off, even louder. Loud with cavernous can make conversation difficult.
- Think RFC is much better for service, food quality and ability to converse.

Been several times - based on above review, why?
- Everyone should go at least once.
- If you like to take pictures it is a great place to go and you can easily walk around and take all you want.
- It's a unique restaurant that for an average meal is fun.

We often request the ice room when we arrive at the podium. I want to mention that we are Landry card holders - it gets you seated quicker and we always have had a manager come over to see us a couple of times at each meal, asking if everything is ok and thanking us for being Landry members. Maybe this helps get better service? It is loud and lots of lights, but teen DD's still enjoy it:-)

My BF and I ate there on our last trip because I love dinosaurs haha. I don't remember what the rooms are called but we ate in the main room, the one you first walk into. After our meal we walked around to see the different areas, we liked the ice room but decided we would not want to eat our meal there. If we were to go back we'd probably just eat at the bar and enjoy the view of the entire place.

The food is very similar to Rainforest Cafe (I hate Rainforest Cafe). I had a cotton candy martini which was fun but very sweet. Our food was fine nothing memorable either good or bad but like I said it's the same as Rainforest Cafe. You're going for the atmosphere.

We've eaten here twice and have a third visit planned in two weeks. Both times we requested and got the ice cave because we like the crazy changing colors. Also, both times we have had outstanding food and service. Frankly I was surprised given the type of restaurant it is. The one thing I could do without is the noise. It's sooo loud with all the people, screaming kids, and moaning dinosaurs. Not to mention the occasional meteor shower. BUT we love it. My meals have included a bbq pulled pork sandwich and fish tacos, which were very good. I can't remember what everyone else had.

I think we may have been one of the lucky ones because my son and I have eaten there a couple of times and had great service and good food both times. It has certainly been better than all of the times we ate at the Rainforest Cafe. The ice room is fun to sit in but I prefer sitting out by the fire. To me you can see more of the dinosaur "action" when the meteor thing happens. I will say that it is super noisy wherever you're eating at.
