It can be, yes. The dinos are quite realistic and loud. My 3 1/2 yr. DD was a little scared at first until we told her that they couldn't move and were stuck to the ground. Then she calmed down a little. We were also sat with the view of a dino's rear and after joking about that for a little while she calmed down and started to enjoy herself more. I don't think we'll go back next May though, just too expensive.
It can be loud and overwhelming. I was afraid my 3 year old DS would be afraid, as he is very timid and does not like loud noises. He absolutely loved the T-Rex Cafe and that is all he talks about. He wants to eat there everyday. There are areas that do not have as many dinos and is alittle quieter. My son did not mind the noise and loved the dinos
Thanks for the input.
Were traveling with my sister in law and my 6 year old nephew, and I know he would love this retaurant. The issue is with my kids - 4 and 1. I was thinking it might be a little scary for them. Maybe we could ask not to be seated right next to one of the dinos?
Now that I've read your responses and thought it over, I don't think we'll be going to T-Rex this trip. I'm going to go with my gut feeling that my kids won't be comfortable here. Maybe next time!
My 3 and 5 year old were not scared, but I could see it being frightening. They don't take reservations anyway, if you think it might be something you want to do, go to the restaurant and take them to see the dinosaurs (the scariest one is up front anyway), and see what they think, if its too much, pick somewhere else to eat?
They will begin taking reservations January 5, but not through Disney. T-Rex must be called directly.
As for little children being scared, it'll depend on the children. Some kids aren't freaked out by such things. There have been a few reports on the board from parents of small children who were frightened.
Can be a little scary for young ones. It's really loud and the dino's are so realistic. Also every so often they have a "Meteor Shower" which is awesome but is very very loud. The restaurant darkens, lights starting flashing everywhere and all the dino's start roaring. For an unsuspecting child that can scare the crud out of them. On one good note, the food was pretty good but a little pricey.
My 4 year old freaked out and we could not eat there. No way no how. It is very frightening for toddlers. The dinos look real and they are very loud. My son eats at Rainforest all the time but this truely scared him.
We just ate there in early December and my DD who is 3 1/2 and my DS who is 1 1/2 didn't have any issues with the restaurant ~ they loved it. Mind you, my DD does not seem to be afraid of much. All the rides that we thought might be too dark or too scary for her she absolutely loved!! I think it just depends on your kids - you know them best and I am sure you will make the right decision!! As a side note - we had a great meal there too, one of our favorites for the trip!
I wouldn't. My granddaughters are 5 and 3, they love dinos and I can't wait to take them there. Hubby and I stopped in, had a bite and cocktails at the bar to "test" the food and check out the inside. It is very cool in there. They did a great job with it.
Again, this is just my opinion and it depends on how your children are raised, experience wise and what they are use to.
our kids did just fine. They were really intrigued with it all. The little ones are almost 3, 4 and 5. I wouldn't eat in the ice room (where the bathrooms are) since it did look scary in there! LOL But other places would be fine and we were actually tucked away quite nicely since we were a large party. The food was way too pricey though, IMO.
DS is on the scared side (he was 3.5 when we went a few months ago, just after opening). He did OKAY, but everytime there was a planned storm (every 20 minutes or so?) he freaked out a bit. He doesn't do that great at Rainforest Cafe either. The last time we went, we sat near a fog patch and that REALLY bothered him. I have gone to Rainforest and asked for somewhere to sit that was 'not so scary' and that has worked okay. All in all, we probably will go back (he will be older then) and he has the experience of having gone once. He LOVED the build a dino shop. Pricey, yes, but it was definitely a highlight of our trip.
