Hi,

Im thinking trying to make a reservation for PH on my birthday 31st Oct & a reservation at T Rex on my dads birthday 9th Nov.

What do you think of these places??? My son is 2, do you think he's too young?? As i want him to enjoy it too!!

Thanks xx

We have been to PH twice before and, to be honest, wouldn't be too upset if we never managed to fit it in again. It was extemely busy on both occassions, very loud and the food was OK.
T-rex on the other hand we did twice on our last trip alone, and it was top of the list for our trip in October. The atmosphere is really good, food was excellent and the service was worth the 25% tip that we left. It is pricey, compared to other restaurants in the area, but as you are planning on booking it for a special occassion that probably won't be a factor for you.
You will probably get replies from others who will say that it may be too intense for a 2 year - but that totally depends on your child, and only you know what his tolerance levels are.
When we where there we saw plenty of 2 and 3 year olds exploring the dinosaurs that are on display, and jumping up and down in excitement when the meteor showers hit.
Have a look at the website below and see what you think.

I've not been to T Rex yet - but am going this October, it looks fantastic!

If I was you I would book a table before you go as I have heard the queue for walk ins is pretty bad. You can either phone them up (using the number from the webiste) or book online through Disney.

To book online go www.disneyworld.com. You will be redirected to the UK site - so click on the link in white "Visit U.S site" in the top left corner. From there there will be a big silver toolbar on the US disney website, if you go to "book" then "dining reservations" you can search from everywhere and book online:thumbsup2

Thanks guys,

Ive booked them both!!!!!! PH for 5pm and TRex for 4pm. I thought these would be good times *** im sure my lil boy will be exhausted every day and want his bed by about 7pm lol!!!!

Im in 2 minds about PH now, *** it is my birthday and really want to enjoy myself with my family. Is there anywhere else family orientated that you could recommend?? thanks xx

I work in a nursery and there's a few little boys around your son's age who are huge dinosaur fans, I know T Rex would be their idea of heaven! We're not eating there but I plan to take some pics anyway to show them :)
Planet Hollywood i've never been keen on myself (not eaten at the Orlando one but have in other locations) Are you wanting to eat at DTD or are you open to other areas?

we're big fans of Planet Hollywood but only when they have not got the DJ on - at the times when they do it's best to avoid the place - it feels like a tacky nightclub. When they don't have it on and it's just movie music and they play the clips it's agreat place!

As for T-Rex we're not as big fans - far too loud in there and had to shout to the person next to me. We'd opt for Rainforest Cafe instead.

But then if everyone liked the same thing it would be a pretty boring place!

Hi,
we went to both in May. My son is 3 and was amazed by Trex and loved every second of it!
For what its worth we went to PH and I wasnt impressed at all. The tables were crammed together and the q's were huge. (We had a ressie and still waited about 30-40 mins for our table)
We had previously been to the Disneyland Paris one and loved it so I suppose each experience is different.
My main tip 4 the Trex would be dont have a starter because the meals are huge!
We had a burger with waffle type fries and it was lovely! The service was great and although it was expensive (About $160.00 2 adults 2 children) I think it was worth the money and will definately be going again!
Have a great time.
Mandy

We did character dining and T-rex and T-rex came out tops!
It was fantastic,Our DD just turned 4 loved it,and the build a dino is very good too the interaction from the staff was lovely.I would dine there again 100% glad you have booked it,you won't be disappointed.:thumbsup2

Was at DTD on Monday evening. T-Rex was heaving with around 100+ people in queue outside. Did not eat there, but went for a look around. Food looks fine. Plenty of young children there. Much same inside as Rainforest. If you decide to go for it, I should book in advance as when we returned at 10:00pm the queue outside was still quite long

We didn't enjoy PH at all. As a previous poster has said, it's very loud and the tables are crammed together. Despite us having a reservation for 6:30, we still waited almost 30 minutes to be seated (yes, I know it's not a reservation as such but still, at that time I would have expected less fo a wait). Also, despite having checked in no less than 3 times - once at the podium outside, once inside and once upstairs it still seemed to come as a complete shock when they did eventually seat us that there were 7 of us and we would need a bigger table than one for 4 with a couple of chairs added on the ends

Definitely worth a miss in my opinion.

As far as other options for a family meal, Rainforest Cafe at DTD is good. Also, Wolfgang Puck Cafe is nice but not necessarily child-orientated (that's not to say that children aren't made more than welcome).

Have you considered a character meal at one of the resorts?

Family style springs Ohana into my mind, I think we're going to have our welcome meal there for our wedding.

Have you had a look at it? If it's your type of food I think it'd be really fun for a birthday.

We enjoyed the food and the atmosphere at PH back in 1998 we are going back next month (I gotta have some of the pasta there Mmmm...) to try it again. We'll be doing a TR and a dining review:thumbsup2

The food looks okay at T-Rex but the waits at the door look manic, if you really want to dine there make a dining reservation ASAP!! That way you'll spend less time queueing and more time (hopefully) eating and taking in the whole vibe of the place. Good Luck

If you are not restricted to DTD for a meal then there are plenty of other places that are suitable for a special night.
City Walk at Universal has some really good places - Jimmy Buffets and NBA being 2 of our favourites. We also think Bahama Breeze is excellent.
For our wedding anninversary we have booked ourselves into Texas de Brazil after reading many very positive comments on these very boards.

No not restircted to DTD at all!!

Think I might cancel our PH resrvation on my bday then!!!

Ive booked a character buffet dinner at Crystal Palace and a character breakfast at Tuskers already which im really looking forward too.

Ive got a reservation at T Rex too on my dads bday which should be super!!!!

How do I make reservations through Universal??????????

Thank You! xx

ohanas is at the polynesian, they have a bfast with lilo and stitch which is fab!

Hi,

We ate at the Trex last Sunday, we werent expecting to. We were staying at SSR and wandered over to DTD around 3.30pm. After looking in the shops we thought we'd wander over to Trex to see how long the line was - it was 5.30pm - we could not believe our luck as we were called straight away - granted there was just the two of us.

I was kicking myself as it was the one time I did not have my camera with me.

I really enjoyed it - service was excellent -

I had the bronto burger (it was around $13) and Dh had the ribs (they were yummy)

We sat right next to the triceratops with its baby.

There were about 4 families waiting in line at the time.

We thought it was so much better than the rainforest cafe

anyone know of a way to get t rex / rainforest cafe gift cards in UK? iv looked on the website and they only deliver to US :( Was hoping to give one as a gift before our trip next year x x

The only option I can think of would be to see if someone going soon would buy one on your behalf and you pay them back for it, otherwise you could change the amount of dollars you want and make a nice dinosaur or rainforest themed envelope/cover on the computer to print off :)

I would miss PH, And defo go for T-Rex, didnt think PH was very good food, Possibly just a bad night, atmosphere in there was good, Just the food let it down.
