I get up dates from the rainforest cafe club every 3 months. My last up date informed us that the rainforest cafe in Downtown Disney is to be closed and reopened as T-rex cafe. On their web site it looks like a really fun place.
They do not say when the change over will being or end. Does any one have any information on this? The post on the news letter just says "coming soon to Downtown Disney"

Here is what I found online: Sounds cool!

T-Rex is a unique concept that features dining and retail in an interactive prehistoric environment. The concept is built around water, fire and ice -- guests visiting T-Rex will be greeted with life size animatronic dinosaurs that live among cascading waterfalls, bubbling geysers, a fossil dig site and much more. Locations are planned domestically and internationally, the first of which is slated to open this spring in The Legends mall in Kansas City, Kansas; with another opening in Downtown Disney(R) (near Orlando) in early 2008.

Interesting, when I was at DTD last week I was speculating where T Rex cafe would go.....now we know :)

Thanks for the reply.
I have a trip planned for Nov. and was hoping.
I looked over their web site and I can't wait to check it out.
Well, I guess I'll have to wait until '08 :(

Originally T-Rex was suppose to be somewhere in PI and was going to be in addition to RFC. The newsletter may be wrong or the plans may have changed.

Is there any way you could scan or post a pic of the newsletter?

T-rex was announced a while back by the Landry company (which owns both RF and the relatively new Trex concept). However, at least at that time, it was to be a new restaurant IN ADDITION to the Rainforest Cafe. Plans can always change, but does the newsletter clearly state it will be replacing the RF cafe?

RF cafe at DTD is always very busy and I would be very surprised if they decided just to replace it. Then again, both concepts are somewhat similar to each other and there is already a RF cafe on Disney property at AK, so anything is possible.

It seems strange that Landry's would open a T-Rex nearby a Rainforest Cafe.... wouldn't putting them so close together make it painfully clear how they're exactly the same?

I was hoping this wouldn't happen. I love the RFC (the only one I've been to was the one in DTD). Oh well, time to evolve, I guess. :(

It would sure make sense to me for one of the two RFCs at WDW to be replaced with T-Rex. Why need there be two RFCs within a few miles of each other?

I will believe this when I see it, because I can not see WDW replacing the Rainforest Cafe at Downtown Disney. In my opinion it has to be one of their most successful restaurants & everytime my family & I are there, they are always busy & always calling people's names so they can be seated, which is why we always try to eat there around 4:30 PM.

Not sure if it says it will actually replace RFC . . . would love to see the OP document.
