We are:
Tony, (DH Tony64) age 44 - in charge of driving, collecting coffee and doughnuts for breakfast, running to get fast passes and generally stressing. This is his ninth trip.
Theresa (me), age 43 - in charge of the credit cards and plotting quickest routes to the shopping malls. This is my tenth trip.
Maddie (DD), age 19 - jointly in charge of where we eat, shop and play this trip. This is her seventh trip.
Callum (DS) age 18 - in charge of himself. This is his seventh trip.
Saturday 30th August 2008. Half-way through our holiday already.
Up early again and off to Epcot. We were at the park gates by 9am and rushed straight to Soarin, our favourite ride. We grabbed fast passes then joined the stand-by queue which was quite short. In my opinion this is the type of ride that Disney does best a real makes-you-feel-good ride.
After that we did Living with the Land, Test Track, Nemo, Figment and Ellen, all with no queues. It really does pay to get up early and get to the parks for opening time (thanks Maddie!).
For lunch we planned on going to Le Cellier, but Maddie wasnt keen, so she grabbed a counter-service burger from The Electric Umbrella, which is her favourite, with the intention of just having a drink and dessert at Le Cellier. However, when we got to Le Cellier we were told that the ADR we had booked months ago had been booked for tomorrow! The CMs were very nice though, and found room for us.
Tony ordered the Filet Mignon with mushroom risotto, Cal had New York Strip and I had Prime Rib Sandwich. Only Cal and I had dessert; Chocolate Mousse for Cal and Creme Brulee for me. Maddie just had a Chocolate Raspberry Shake. All Delicious. Total bill was $111 using our DDE card and including tip.
On leaving Le Cellier, we were shocked to find the nice weather had disappeared and torrential rain had taken its place. Wed had so little rain this holiday that we hadnt bothered to take our wet-weather gear with us around the parks, so it was unhelpfully sitting in the boot of the car. As the weather looked set for the day, we had a short discussion about who should go back to the car and fetch it (Tony, obviously) but he refused!
We sheltered for a while in the Honey I Shrunk the Audience lobby and then decided there was nothing for it but to get wet, so we did, and at least it was warm rain.
It rained off and on for most of the afternoon and evening, but it was mainly just light showers so we walked slowly around World Showcase, stopping off at various places for snacks. We tried Fish and Chips in the UK (just one portion between us, honest!) then had some chocolate sticks and rice candy in Japan and then coffee and cakes in the Kringla Bakery in Norway.
A huge School Bread (like a big custard doughnut with icing and coconut on top) and a big chocolate cookie for Maddie and I to share (we couldnt decide which to have, so we had both). Tony had an apple Danish, Cal had a bottle of water!
We rode the re-vamped Spaceship Earth ride and loved the fun new bits, but I miss Jeremy Irons lovely voice (though Judi Dench does a good job too).
We left the park around seven. This is the longest time we have spent in a park so far this holiday, probably because the rain made it much cooler to walk around.
We made a bit of a detour to Bob Evans Restaurant on the way home as Cal and Tony were still hungry! They had Pot Roast and mashed potatoes which looked lovely, but me and Maddie could only manage a drink.
Back home, we flopped on the sofas and watched another episode of House and baked some yummy chocolate chip cookies.
There were noisy storms during the evening and The Weather Channel informed us that Hurricane Gustov was on its way up the Gulf.
Tomorrow: a lie-in!
