SYTYCD - So You Think You Can Dance Season 9

I'm not usually into the hip hop dancers, but I loved Asher (the one who wants to be a back-up dancer for Justin Bieber). He was funny! I also wish there were more ballroom dancers. This show needs another Benji!!

I think I have an early favorite - Eliana Gerard, the one who danced for Cirque De Solei and Alvin Ailey. She is beautiful and talented. Also, how about the brother sister at the end who survived the head-on collision? The fact that he could dance six weeks after being declared DOA is amazing. Loved the twin brothers who were over age. They cracked me up. And while the circus guy didn't cut it, that ring was mesmerizing.
I agree on all points. Eliana is definitely a favorite for me. I rewound and watched her audition again.

The twins were hilarious! I'm glad they spent time showing that rather than another person who can't dance.

I have quite a few I like right now but like another poster said I try not to get too attached at this point.

I love, love, love Cyrus. His dance for your life was amaing!

Anyone else watching?

We enjoyed Cyrus, too. His attitude makes you root for him.

Generally Debbie Allen annoys me on the panel. I may have actually given her a standing O for her note to "sexy girl". I was really impressed w/ Adam's initial no to her as well.

So far I'm really interested in ballroom dancer Whitney.

Vegas week is difficult...so many mass cuts. It's hard to see some of the early stand-outs go home.

I thought Danielle Dominguez was really good, until she got kicked in the head. Poor thing didn't have a chance after that head injury.

Cyrus killed his solo dance and has the confidence/potential to go far in the competition. I am definitely rooting for him to be in the top 20. :thumbsup2 However, I was disappointed to see his buddy from the Dragon House crew just walk away and not even try...:confused3

For a minute there I didn't know if Amelia Lowe (silent movie girl) was going to make it. Very surprised she was asked to dance for her life. She did an amazing job and won Sonya over.

I was so glad to see Debbie Allen call Rachel's strip-tease OUT... "put on more clothes and dance!" :scared1::thumbsup2

Agree with everything you said. I was sorry to see Danielle get cut, especially since her accident happened helping out another dancer. I would have hoped they'd cut her some slack for that.

I was surprised to see the ballet dancer with the purple bangs who received so many complements for her choreography during the group stage get cut. I didn't think she did so poorly on the contemporary choreography that her other performances wouldn't save her. And considering that there are so many contemporary female dancers, you would think that a ballet dancer would fill a much needed niche.

Looking at the girls who made it through Vegas week, they are almost all contemporary/jazz with the exception of the two ballroom girls, Whitney and Lindsay and Janelle, the belly dancer. No b-girls this year, which is too bad. The guys have more variety with hip hop, ballroom and tap mixed in with the group of contemporary dancers. Did Cole Horibe make it through?

I so agree about Cyrus, especially his attitude. I respect the popper with the long dreads that backed out with apologies to the judges, but was surprised that that one of Cyrus' Dragon House cut out without a word.

This is going to be a good season. I just wish that there was more variety with the girls. Also, a warning. There will be some interruptions during the Olympics, so keep an eye on your TV Schedule. This is what I've seen posted so far:

I was really sorry to see Adrien go. I thought he was as good as the other guys. Of the guys left I really like the ballet dancer. For the girls, I love Amelia.

That last male ballet dancer was incredible. I don't know what else he can do but technically he's like Danny or maybe Alex. I don't like that blonde they keep saving. They are giving her SO many chances.

I predict the last two girls will be the two ballroom friends since they like to be a bit mean that way. I hope I'm wrong because they're both good.

I hope you're wrong too, because as I said, there are so many contemporary dancers.

I just realized there was one male dancer I didn't notice last night and was wondering if he made it through Vegas week. Remember the one ballet guy whose choreography was awful, but they gave him a second chance and he turned out to be really good? Did anybody notice if he made it through or not?

Thanks for the scheduling info.

I agree about the ballet dancer. When you make a straight up comparison between her and Cyrus for example, it really shows why Nigel keeps feeling it's necessary to say it's not necessarily the best dancer, but the favorite dancer. Mind you, I like Cyrus and think he did an incredible job for an untrained dancer -- if that's entirely true. They have fooled us before w/ dancers like Comfort -- who herself has gone on to become a spectacular all-around dancer.

I also thought the female crumper did a really respectable job and I wanted her to at least do her solo to get a critique from Lil' C. Sonya and Travis were very influential in last night's selections. Sonya specializes in contemporary/jazz and Travis contemporary. I think that had a hand in who made it through.

Good observation. I forgot about the female krumper. I thought she could have a chance for the diversity factor, plus I think she could have been really fun to watch.

I found a potential spoiler if anyone is interested, I think I can post a link.

Loved the female crumper, but I think she was let go in the final round that was shown this week.

Loving Cyrus, Eliana, and the guy that did the last solo!!!

That's right - Aubrey Klinger, the ballet dancer who choreographed the "Prom" group dance...I couldn't believe they cut her after the ballroom routine. I didn't think she was THAT bad?! :confused3
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=WxgXh-UjQvc#! ...she would have been spectacular to watch.

I don't get the whole Alexa thing...and agree with the judges that "the lights are on, but nobody's home." She is like an empty shell person dancing...lots of issues going on there. However, the judges think there is something there, even though Adam said she looked "dead".

Seems to me like they are not following their own rules of 'not looking for the best dancer...but someone who is unique'. I would have gladly taken mini Mia Michaels over someone who looks like a zombie.

I don't know the name of the last guy, but he was a-mazing! He had some powerful leaps, but was really graceful like a gazelle. :thumbsup2

Thank you for the schedule - I'm going to post/quote you on the first page. :goodvibes

Loving Cyrus and Janelle, the belly dancer. I also like Amelia, she is definitely unique.
I'm not crazy about Alexa, they let go of dancers who are way more talented and entertaining.

I think it's going to be a great season, and I can see in the faces of some of the choreographers that they are excited to have some people they can really sink their teeth into. In seeing some of the auditions, DS15 and I were like Sonja would love her, Tyce would love him.

I just wish the Exorcist had stayed. I really really hope he comes back and takes some at least basic lessons in other forms of dance in the mean time. That talent needs to be seen.
I also hope that Mariah, the krumper, comes back, I think she had a lot of untapped talent and would have had room to grow if given the chance. Personally I would have picked her over Alexa.

Speaking of Mia Michaels, does anybody know if we'll see any of her choreography this season?

I'm wondering the same thing. I swear when Nigel told one of the dancers that she reminded him of a young Mia Michaels in her dance style, Mary Murphy's face turned to stone. I've heard there is bad blood between them. The dancer is now gone. Methinks I maybe shouldn't hold my breath waiting for Ms. Michaels.

It's so hard to post here while the show is airing since I want to soak it all in...but I have to say - I am loving the top 20! :cool1:

And oh my, the Travis piece was incredible.

I think the selection of Alexa was a given all though I think it as a terrible decision - reminds me of the blonde that made it when she was cut last year. Way too many chances when they gave other none.

Love all 3 ballet dancers and hope they remain on the show - technical excellence combine with beautiful expression.

Mia Michaels s back.

I totally agree about Alexa. I hate that they are trying to push her on us because frankly I don't enjoy watching her dance at all. This will sound terrible but it almost makes me wonder which producer she has dirt on. :rolleyes1
