I will be traveling from NYC to Niagara Falls and it seems the half way point is around Syracuse. We will be stopping for 1 night just to break the drive and I am looking for a clean, budget friendly hotel. My only real requirement is clean (bug free) stay.
Any recommendations?
TIA

Funny we are doing the SAME exact thing - when are u heading to Niagra? we are going the end of August

The Motel i have booked is Clarion Inn at 100 Farrell Road for 90.00

Hi there,

Just a question for you, are you planning to drive just a few hours? The reason I ask is that I am from Rochester and my daughter lives on Staten Island. I commute back and forth to visit and it only takes 5 1/2 to 6 hours either direction. From Rochester to Niagara Falls is only another 1 1/2 hours. You could make the entire drive in 1 day and save the cost of a hotel. :goodvibes

You could stop to have a nice breakfast/lunch (brunch to break up the drive.

We will be heading up the first weekend of August. Was debating booking or driving until we're ready to break and finding something. I will check out Clarion Inn. Thank you and enjoy your trip!

The original plan was to drive straight thru. Now we're thinking of leaving the evening before and driving half way before stopping.

funny, i live on Staten Island!!

We like to just drive about 4 hours then stop take a dip in the pool - grab dinner and get to sleep early - oh OP the hotel also has free breakfast :) We would never survive driving 7-8 hours

On the way home we are stopping in Horseheads, NY -

There is an Embassy Suites, Red Roof Inn as well as a few other hotels located near Exit 35 on/near Carrier Circle. Also, near Exit 36 and 37 in Liverpool there are a number of hotels on 7th North St, Buckley Road and Electronics Parkway. There is a Denny's on 7th North as well. I think there is a Super 8 up on County Route 57 near Exit 38.

Can u recommend a good place to eat dinner around the Clarion on Farrell Raod? anything else in the area for kids as we'll be their by about 2p

We regularly visit my hubby's family in Syracuse. We stay @ the Comfort Suites in Cicero, NY. About 10 minutes up the road, and the hotel is wonderful. :)

Quaker Steak and Lube is not far from there. The kids might like it. They have a bunch of really neat motorcycles hanging from the ceiling.

I believe there is a good restaurant right at the hotel as well.

If you like malls it's a easy zip East on Rt 690 to visit Carousel Center. AKA: Desitiny USA. Biggest mall in this area. Get off at the Hiawatha Blvd, turn left at the bottom of exit. Drive several blocks up and you'll see the mall on your left. Our one and only Disney Store is in that mall :)

If you go West/North on Rt 690 it becomes County Route 48. If you keep on going straight toward Fulton you could visit the Thunder Island Amusement Park. Mini golf, water slides etc.

We did the same thing recently pretty much. We drove straight from Boston to Niagara Falls, Canada in 1 day but decided to split the ride up to come home. Basically we visited Niagara Falls, NY on the way home and didn't know how long we would be there. We also thought if we had enough time we would visit the science museum in Syracuse with our local museum recipricality but we were too late.

We stayed at Crestview Suites in East Syracuse. Considering dh left our gps cord at home it was really easy to find. I don't know why but when we booked it was cheaper to get a 2 bedroom suite.

We had one bedroom with a king size bed and its own bathroom, a second bedroom with two queen beds and its own full bathroom, a living room with a sofa, table with 4 chairs and kitchen with stove, oven, apartment size fridge, pots, pans, dishes, dishwasher etc. When we got to the hotel they served hamburgers and hotdogs plus continental breakfast in the morning. There was an outdoor pool which we didn't use, and free laundry. Our room was clean and looking under the mattress, sheets etc no signs of bugs. After tax it was $125 for the night. It was nice to get an earlier good nights sleep and leave with clean laundry. Laundry is free but a box of soap was $1.00 if you need it.

That hotel is in a fairly industrial/commercial area... a lot of warehouses and such.. not much around beyond the Lube.

Assuming you're coming up 81 to get to Syr, the most convenient area would be Liverpool - many of the hotels are right where 81 and the Thruway intersect. It's also very close to Carousel and Onondaga Lake Park - they have a great playground, waling/biking paths, tram rides, bike rentals, and the Salt Musuem are all there.
