The Sword in the Stone Ceremony in MK ended Aug 15, 2006.

It took place directly in front of the Carousel in Fantasyland at MK most days of the week, several shows a day.

It was always a fun thing to watch because Merlin was such a great character who interacted with the guests so well.

SitS was such a small "under the radar" event, that I'll bet many guests never even knew it existed.

Last February, I decided I'd videotape the whole show, just to "have it."

Little did I know that it would be the last time I'd ever get to SEE the show as it closed permanently in Aug.

So, here's my "hand-held" capture of the entire SinS Ceremony.

Merlin even got ME into the act (as you'll see) to help "hold the rope."

Thanks Robo! I'm really sorry they took this away -- DS, 8, loves the Sword in the Stone movie and we appreciated the little touch of "old magic" at MK. I know that WDW needs to constantly keep updating (it was Walt's vision, afterall) and keeping things fresh, but I always hate to see these little old-timey things go.

It was a really nice little ceremony. I'm looking forward to the next "special touch" they add to the parks. Hopefully, it'll be just as special, if not more so! :thumbsup2

I'm sorry to see this one go, too. Do you know for sure it's gone for good?

The sword and the stone were there on Tuesday, but of course no ceremony. It was/is kind of sad. :guilty:

My son did it three years ago, he still has his medal and certificate. bloody camera didn't work. So sad its going as the youngest son would have loved it too.

Just reading up on next year's new attractions, and I bet the Sword in the Stone might be a casualty of thew new attraction: The Royal Court Academy at Cinderalla Castle Courtyard. Rather than just one child getting the opportunity to feel like royalty (really three or four), instead all children are offered that opportunity. I've always felt that that was the worst part of Sword in the Stone -- how it leaves so many children (and perhaps adults) disappointed. This new attraction sounds like it is along the same lines as Sword in the Stone, overall, and in the same general location, but it doesn't suffer from that failing.

I was so glad to just happen upon the show. I had seen the sword in the stone while DH and I were in MK one evening but never really thought about the show. (I was REALLY REALLY bad about picking up the little show time card!).

Anyway happened to be in Fantasyland one morning before lunch and got to see the whole show and loved it. I will miss it ... but I think I saw another thread talking about the replacement show.

I've not gotten a chance to look at your video Robo but hope to later. Thanks. :thumbsup2

I am sad to hear this! I thought the CM that played Merlin was just wonderful in the part. I guess I need to put things in perspective but I HATE it when Disney cuts things - I still haven't gotten over the departure of the Living Statues!!! :sad2:
