Swollen Lip?

I have a very weird question. I woke up yesterday morning with a slightly swelled lip on the bottom left side. I took some Advil and used some ice and it seemed to be okay. This morning I woke up and its way bigger. I didnt go to class this morning because it is very embarassing looking. I made an appointment for this afternoon but I am nervous.

Does anybody have any idea what it could be or has anyone else had something like this?

My dad get cold sores sometimes, but I have never seen it like this I mean its swelled from the middle to the left of my mouth.

I did have a small pimple/whitehead below this side, but Im not sure if that has anything to do with it

I had the same exact thing happen to me in the Fall. I thought I was getting chapped lips and it just kept getting worse. It was my upper lip and my family dubbed me "Big Lip" don't you love the sympathy .

I still have no clue what it was. I had eaten shellfish several days before, though I have never had a reaction before or since, so maybe that was it. Someone else told me it could be from kissing my cat if they had just cleaned themselves and cat salivia was still present . I applied Hydrocortisone cream and it took it away within hours, so it must of been a reaction to SOMETHING, but I have no clue what!!

It is good you are going to the doctor and I am sure it is an allergy of some type. Please let us know how it goes

It sounds like a cold sore. Mine usually start with what looks like a pimple and then if I don't use Abreva or something will erupt a few days later.

An allergic reaction or an infection come to mind immediately.

You said oyu had a pimple near the area...could it have become infected and/or abcessed?? Try warm soaks, but you might also want to take a run into a walk-in medical center or your dentist to have them take a look at it. They might give you an antibiotic.

Are any teeth in that area giving you a problem? That's another possibility. Could also be a plugged salivary gland...that can cause swelling and pain.

In any event, sounds like a trip to the dentist may be in order.

My coworker had that happen twice in a couple of weeks. She took advil for it after having taken advil the night before for a headache. She ended up going to the dr after the second time and he told her she was allergic to high doses advil.

Thank you for all the advice! I was trying to go back and think if I had eaten or tried anything new and I cant think of one thing!

Also not teeth have been giving me problems....this is frustrating having to wait till 2:30 to see the doctor! I will leave an update when I find out what it is!

Try taking 25 mg of Benadryl. I think it could be an allergic reaction.

I've had some problems with my lip being numb and a little swollen but it's from an infection I had in my tooth.

Well he wasnt exactly sure what it was either. He thinks its some sort of infection (Caused by the pimple) and prescribed me some antibiotics and also told me to take benadryl too. (I guess in case it is an allergy) I really dont like taking antibiotics, so I actually may wait a day to take them and see if the benadryl works, if not then I will take them.

Don't wait to start the antibiotics as if it is an infection it can become much worse. Good luck.
