We are seriously looking to purchase the S3 (actually, the S4 we hope will be released soon) and were wondering about how fragile the swivle LCD screens are? Anyone know of one breaking?

I had an S1 and now an S2 and never had any problems. It seems very solid.

Out of the many posts I've read on cameras that have the swivel LCD's I only recall one post where someone actually broke theirs. I think you'd really have to bang it or push on it pretty hard for one to break. I have two Canons with the swivel LCD and haven't had a problem with either.

I've had an S2 for quite some time now. The swivel is build very well.

99% of the time it should be 'locked' in anyway. The nice thing is you can close it onto the camera with the lcd in or out. Putting it in can protect it a bit more than normal.

That 1% of the time, though the lcd is the coolest feature. Nothing like being able to shoot over peoples heads, etc by pointing the lcd down! (or around corners :rotfl2: , or backwards so you can be in the shot!)

I love being able to take odd angle shots with the swivel LCD. I've had the A95 for a while now and there is no problem with it!

I've had an Olympus C5060 with a swivel LCD for almost 3 yrs and have ahd no problems with it

Graet! Thanks everyone. I believe this seals the deal. We're getting that new Mark III. Oops, I mean that S3 (c'mon Canon, release that S4).

S2 user here. Works fine, no problems at all. And it really is a great feature, in fact one of the features that has kept me from upgrading to a DSLR.
