We have been booked to stay at the Poly and I have SO been looking forward to it. We got a PIN code in email for a discount but its all booked up at the Poly and we can use it at the GF and stay for $300 cheaper at the GF than our current Poly rate.

To save some $$ I am going to change - is the GF as nice s the Poly?

We are staying at Poly in Sept. It will be our first time. We have stayed at GF, and while it is really not our cup of tea (Victorian theme), it is nice, and it is, after all, on the monorail. I'm sure it will be enjoyable. It is similar to Poly in that there are several buildings, and you walk to the main building (unless you are staying in it) to get to restaurants/monorail. We prefer a tower room at CR, as everything is under one roof. We enjoy the theming at CR better, and stay there often, but decided to try Poly this time, since we have never tried it.

Ooh I would certainly change! I love the Poly and haven't stayed at the GF, but I want to one day (my boys and DH refuse to go there because they don't like the decor) but I would jump at the chance. Be happy you got the PIN. I'm still waiting for mine.

I have not stayed at the Poly, but just came back from the GF.

Ummm, you will love the GF IMO. The service was impeccable during our stay.

Try to get a MK view room.

We love the GF, except for the cost. It is beautiful and I am sure that you will have a wonderful time!!! :thumbsup2

I have stayed at Poly, not at GF, but have walked through many times. It is just a beautiful hotel. I know many people who have stayed there and loved it.:lovestruc If you have gotten a PIN in the mail, consider yourself lucky and USE IT!!! ::yes:: It is still on the monorail which would be my major selling point. I have never gotten a PIN code  and am patiently waiting, although I understand that they are not very common, so if you get one it is rare. Have fun.

Having stayed at both, we felt that the GF is far superior to the Poly. The rooms at the Poly were large and comfortable, but they were very dark. We like the CS at the GF much better. The GF is just quieter and much more quality all around, IMO.

If you have a code, you should definietly use it and enjoy! :thumbsup2

Completely agree with this! We've stayed concierge in both and other than the awesome food at the Poly, nothing compares to the GF. We LOVED the GF and are going back again this fall. I don't think we'd stay at the Poly again. you'll love the GF especially for a great price!

I have stayed at both and love both. You cannot go wrong, but if your heart is set on Poly I would be careful with your decision. If it's a weekend stay and you are saving $300 that is one thing, but if you are talking a weeklong visit and really want to be at the Polynesian, you might be better off keeping what you have. $300 might not be worth it.

The GF is GORGEOUS and super nice, though, so you will have a great time. They are SO different. I was just at the GF and we had such a great time and a beautiful room and beautiful view. We just loved it and I thought about changing my summer Disney trip plans (we are staying at the Poly). But now that I've had a week or so to think about it, I'm looking forward to being at the Polynesian :cloud9:

Good luck with your decision :thumbsup2

I have stayed at the GF, and it is nice, but not perfect by far. The staff when we were there was not impressive at all. Most issues we had were small, but being the "flagship" resort, the issues we had shouldn't have existed.

Do I think you will hate/dislike it, probably not, it is still very nice. For us though this year we are staying at the Poly to check it out (it was a toss up between the Poly and CR).

I've stayed at both GF and Poly and personally I prefer the Poly but it's just that ... a personal preference. I just like the layout better ... maybe for the same reason I'd rather rent a beach house than stay in one of those beach hotels. That's what the GF always feels like to me anyway.

To me the only real practical differences are that the GF has more dining options and that Poly gives you the ability to walk to the TTC to take the direct monorail to Epcot. Me ... I'd rather save 20 minutes three or four times in a week than worry about dining at the hotel, but that's me.

That is SUCH a good analogy :thumbsup2 I really do love both Poly and GF but the difference in "feel" is there. Poly is so much more relaxed, laid-back, casual, whatever the word is, I'm not quite sure. The GF is amazing and I love to take people there who've never been to WDW w/ me ;) - they're always like, "Wow! No wonder you like coming to Disney World so much!" :rotfl: It's very beautiful and fabulous and luxurious. But the Poly is where I like to go and shack up and just
r-e-l-a-x and chill :wizard: My DH has always refused to stay anywhere but the Grand but this year I've convinced him to join us at the Poly. His family stayed there once when he was a little boy, so I think he'll get a kick out of being back there PLUS I just love the new rooms and the feel of the whole resort :cloud9:

I really was looking forward to the Poly but we made the switch. My DH is an account so if he has a chance to save money on something - he always goes with that option!

I am sure we will love it - its just a matter of all the months I was so preparing for the Poly.

The GF is really nice!

Everything is centrally located, so it's never a long walk to the main building / monorail.

There is a quick-service restaurant and giant quiet pool and both are open 24hrs. A second pool has a waterslide, a zero-entry side, and is "beachfront" on the lagoon.

You can watch "Wishes" and the EWP from the dock at the GF, and from many of the lagoon-view and theme-park-view rooms.

The rooms are spacious, light and airy, as is the lobby.

There is lots of information on the GF thread on this board -- check it out.

Have a great trip! We would LOVE to get a code for the GF!!!!!
