Can this be done in Disney's system ahead of time?

We arrive on Saturday...ressie is myself, DH, and DD. All is good.

On Thursday, my parents arrive. Our ressie will then need to be myself, DD, and my mom. A 2nd ressie will start on Thursday for DH and my dad.

I talked with one CM this morning, but they were totally clueless on how to make this work. Has anyone had luck doing something like this?

If this is a room only just add them when they arrive at the resort. If it is a package I would still wait to do this when they are checking in.

It's room only, so that's easy. The problem is DME is telling me that she has to be on a ressie to be able to use the service...so I'm trying to get her on the ressie ahead of time. :)

Couldn't you list both parents on the 2nd ressie? Even if that is not the sleeping arrangement, wouldn't that work to get her on the DME?

That will be the sleeping arrangement...trust me, I don't want to sleep in the same room as my mom! :rotfl:

The problem is we're doing this as their Christmas gift...get to see WDW at Christmas, see the grandkid(s) enjoy Disney, all that jazz.

As AP members, we booked using the AP code (as we do for all of our ressies). So DH has to be on that ressie since my folks don't have APs.

Why do you need to move your husband off of your reservation and put your mom on it? Are they staying for different lengths of time? :confused3 Why not just get a separate reservation for your parents?

No, I've never been able to do this, only the Magical Express part of the ressie allows different check in/out days with no problems. I think if you set the ressie up ahead of time the 1st ressie would need to be for 4 people (paying the extra $$ for an extra adult) and the 2nd ressie for 2 adults. I would just switch the occupants in the rooms when your parents check-in. If you have a package with tickets and/or DDP, everyone has to be on the same package for the entire stay, so I've been told, except you may be able to add/delete people when they check out/in. I would just switch the room occupants at the front desk when your parents check-in. Good luck :)

yes it can, you'll need 3 ressies to make it work, if your DH REALLY needs to move out when your parents arrive, otherwise two ressies will work. You could always do two ressies one for your family and one for your parents and then sleep where you want, that probably would be the easiest, unless your DH and Dad are leaving earlier, then you'll need three ressies, One for the first part, for your family, a second one with your mom and DD and a third for you DH and dad. If you decide to do this, just tell them at check-in that you have another reservation for X date and you shouldn't have to move, just re-check-in that morning to get new room keys.

sorry, posted my reply before I saw this. I thought that AP members were allowed to book up to 3 rooms at a time, so technically your DH doesn't have to be in that room, just have it "linked" to your ressie and you should be all set.

Oh, I see, your DH has to be on the ressie for AP discount. I would leave it like that, I don't think Magical Express will be a problem if one person checks in at Magical Express desk. Or you could just pay the extra adult charge per night and try to get it back when you check in, but to me, it wouldn't be worth the time it takes to do that. :)

Yeah, I replied too, and had my question answered before I posted, LOL! Sorry if I added to the confusion...

I did something similar to this when I was there in April. I was on a solo trip starting on Sunday and my daughter was joining me on Wednesday night. I had a package, so my situation was a little different, but not really.

I was told my 3 CMs and DME that I needed to add her to my room after I checked-in. I waited until the day after I checked-in to do this and it wasn't a problem. I just went to the desk and told them I wanted to add her and they gave me her room key right then and they also added her to DME. The reason I wanted to add her onto the room was because she was going to use DME from the airport to the resort and I didn't want any problems for her at the airport (this was her 1st time traveling alone and she was 15 at the time and I was a little nervous).

I guess this doesn't really apply to you, since you have a room only, but, my other option was to add DD to my package before arriving and I would of had to pay for the dining plan and park tickets for the entire stay, even though she wouldn't be there the entire time.

Hmmm....guess I just need to keep trying to find someone who can figure this all out...

OP, did you see the reply above that I quoted? I thought this was the case too. As AP holders a couple of years ago, I booked 3 rooms that all got the AP discount, even though I was only staying in one of them (obviously). Can't you just link your parents ressie to yours and enjoy the AP rate? :thumbsup2

According to Disney, this policy changed last month. It's now 1 room per adult AP.

Problem is, 1 room per adult AP and the adults with no APs are arriving on a different day. To get around this, pay for a 3rd adult in the 2nd room, seems dumb to do this really, but then your husband and parents names would all be on the 2nd ressie ahead of time and the check-in CM wouldn't have to add/remove name; or book the 2nd ressie in your parents name, use Magical Express, then switch the names on the rooms when your parents check in and you are with them and can arrange to have an AP holder in each room, AP doesn't have to be shown until check-in; or have your mom 'be your husband' for the Magical Express ride (but that's breaking the rules) and have the check-in CM add mom to your room and remove your husband.

It certainly is confusing! I think the 1 room per adult AP policy is causing everyone confusion! I have a ressie coming up where my Dad & his girl friend are joining us a few days after we arrive and I booked a room for them. CM told me, TODAY, no problem booking 2 AP rooms, at first, but, then, since we're not arriving together it could be a problem. I will have to switch occupant names around either ahead of time, or when my Dad arrives. We have 4 adult APs in my family, but my Dad & his girl friend don't. I'm also not exactly sure which family members will be coming at this point, just that there will be at least 2 adult AP members!

Good luck to both of us with this :goodvibes
