switching ressie to a different resort?

I'm booked at POR for next summer with a AAA room only discount. The room is almost paid in full. DH knows I'd like to stay at a deluxe so he told me I should pay off our room at POR and keep putting money away and eventually switch to another resort. My question is should I pay off the room or just make the switch now, ask for a AAA discount and continue making payments? Also, is it easy to make the switch with CRO or does it get confusing? What if I switch my ressie then later decide to switch again? Do they frown upon that because I can't decide where to stay? I'd really love to stay at the Poly but then I talk myself out of it because I'm kind of a tightwad. I'm debating between the Poly (my dream resort) and AKL. I don't think I'll make any changes yet because I can't make up my mind.

If you are definitely going to switch, I'd switch now. There's a good chance that an affordable room at the Poly wouldn't be available down the road. Often times, the only rooms they have available are the more expensive ones. I suppose it's possible that you could switch to the Poly now, and then later switch back to POR or AKL if you want. Lots of people switch resorts. They don't seem to have a problem with it, especially if you upgrade.

Go ahead and switch away, and have no worries! Our upcoming trip was supposed to be 100% POR, and then DW started wondering about upgrading. (In all fairness, there wasn't a lot of effort needed to successfully twist my arm!) :rotfl:

We've upgraded the entire trip to stay in three different deluxe resorts, and each time the Disney staff could not have been more accomodating. Keep in mind that the person who answers the phone at CRO when you call gets credit for the upgrade, so they're very happy to help you.

If you know which resort you want to upgrade to, definitely do it sooner rather than later to insure that it's not sold out on you when you call for the upgrade.

Hope this helps, and enjoy your upcoming trip!

I would switch now because there are only so many rooms available to AAA discount and if you might wait there might not be anything available with a discount.

If you're planning on staying at deluxe resort, book your deluxe resort now and switch your POR payment to the othe resort. There's really no sense in keeping POR if you're not going to stay there. Enjoy your trip!

I did it!
I switched my ressie to AKL, room only with the AAA rate. I booked a savannah view and requested non-smoking with bunk beds. We stayed here before and loved it. We were booked in a standard view last time and got a surprise free upgrade. We loved the view so much that I booked it this time because I didn't want to hope for an upgrade.
I'm glad I did it. DD 5 loves animals and given the choice will go to the zoo over anywhere else besides WDW. :) I'm sure she'll love AKL. She stayed there when she was 2 and still remembers bits and pieces.

Cool! Now there's more to be excited about! We decided to book the CR, since we always wanted to stay at a monorail hotel. So we booked a standard garden wing room. Then we decided that since we were there, we really wanted to try for a MK view, so we upgraded to the tower. Then DW started wondering about concierge, so we decided to spend another $60/night (thank you AP rates!!) and go for the 12th floor concierge. We requested the MK view, and now we're just keeping our fingers crossed! :wizard:

Believe me, we know how you feel right now.....

i have a 2 week stay booked at POFQ,with Virgin Holidays from the UK, can i still upgrade with disney themselves or will i have to go through Virgin, i know it will be more expensive if i have to book it through Virgin, any information would be appreciated, also how do you work out how much the upgrade will be approx, do you times the difference by the amount of days you are staying, and does anyone have the number to ring from the UK for this service

Since you are booked through a travel agent (Virgin Holidays), you cannot make any changes to your reservation. Your travel agent must do so.

When they are talking about upgrading from one hotel to another, they are basicly cancelling the first reservation and making a new one at the going rates at the second resort. (The reservation number may stay the same and deposits, etc can be transferred, but that is what is happening.) Yes, it is costing them more to do the upgrade.

The second type of upgrade is a view upgrade within a resort. If the resort is not full or has booked too many of a particular view, the person may get a free upgrade to a better view category. These happen randomly (thus the term "Magic") and while you can ask if an upgrade is possible, certainly don't get upset if you don't get one. You are getting what you paid for. If the better view is important to you, book and pay for that view. (as was done by a previous poster)

I've done this twice, once going from a deluxe (WL) to a value (Pop), and once going from WL to VWL, with the latter being the most recent, in July of this year. Both times I had to cancel my original reservation and make a new one, both times I got a new reservation #, and this last time I even got a new Grand Gathering # as well. The first time (from WL to Pop) they would not let me apply the money I had already paid toward the WL ressie to the Pop ressie. They issued me a check, which I in turn put in the bank and wrote back to them. The second time my deposit was on a cc. I had to put down another deposit, and wait approx. 4 days for the original deposit to be put back onto my card. Hope this helps!
