Switching resorts during a stay?

I'm consideriing a solo "exploratory" trip in October in preparation for taking my children and grandchildren to WDW later on. I'd like to try out three different resorts (WL, AKL and POR) during my stay to (1) see what the resorts themselves would be like for small children and (2) checking out the transportation system. I'll be traveling without a car.

If anyone has switched resorts during a stay, how did you go about getting your luggage transferred between resorts? I travel light and could conceivably put my stuff in a locker while in the parks, but would prefer just to have it moved on to my next resort. Suggestions?

Disney will take your lugguage to the next hotel for you. Just call early in the am to give them time. At your new hotel you can check in when your lugguage arrives. They are great helping you have a great time.

It really is incredibly simple. I think the hardest part of switching resorts is having to pack my stuff up for the move. Then like the last poster said, the bell services will take your luggage from your first resort to your second resort for you. You can go out to a park, or do whatever. Later on in the day, when you check into the next resort, your luggage is waiting for you. We used to always split our stay, and never had a problem. Have fun! :cool1:

The only caveat is that your luggage will not be there until later in the afternoon, I believe they told us 4:00 p.m. So, be sure to take along anything you would need in the meantime.

And, you can always check into the new resort before your luggage gets there. You then call bell services at the new hotel, (call from your room), and they will bring it up.

It really is a smooth process.
Have a great time.

I'd stay where I am and just hop on a bus and go to the different resorts and check 'em out. Personally, HATE packing and unpacking. I always view it as I'm there on vacation and the least amt of work and hassle, the more enjoyable my time is.

Since it will just be me this time (and I travel light), I don't think it's a problem. I just don't think I can get the "feel" of a property without staying there and checking out how everything will work for my kids and grandkids. I'll go to a park each morning (just like we will on the family trip), coming back mid-day to see how the transportation works, etc. I've always found that vacations can be a lot less "complicated" if someone in the group has "been there, done that":)

I agree. We switched hotels both times we stayed on property (never because we wanted to, always because we were dissatisfied) and we did not find it an easy process. I don't think I've ever waited less than 30 minutes to check in, even during uncrowded times.

For Magical Express guests, bellhops will bring up their luggage to their room, and they don't have to be there when the bellhop delivers.

For "regular" guests just transfering resorts, bellhop will deliver your luggage to your new resort, and store it for you until your room is ready. But you have to be in your room for bellhop to bring up your luggage.

This is how it worked for us, so someone please correct me if this has changed. :thumbsup2
