Switching resort reservations at 7months

question about the logistics of modifying a reservation. Let's say I want to do a split stay, 3 nights at my home resort (AKV), and 3 nights at a different resort. I book all 6 nights at AKV at 11 months to make sure I have the nights. Now at 7 months, I want to switch the last 3 nights of the trip to BLT (or some other resort that's available)

The way I understand it, I would modify my existing AKL reservation, and I would be able to switch some of the nights to a different resort, is that right? If so, would my original reservation stay intact until the changes are confirmed? In other words no chance of losing the original nights if the site crashes in the middle or some nonsense?

Also, would the points from the AKL nights automatically "move" to the new reservation, allowing me to book the nights even though I'd technically have 0 points available? I hope it's clear what I'm asking, I confused myself just trying to type it out lol

You should book the 6 nights at your home resort as two separate reservations of 3 nights and 3 nights. At the 7 month mark, modify one of the reservations and search for the non-home resort availability. Leave the other 3 nights alone if you wish to keep the 3 nights at your home resort. (If not, then modify each 3 night reservation to wherever you wish to stay.)

If you successfully modify an existing reservation of 6 nights, you will lose all 6 nights and end up with 3 at your non-home resort (or however many you’re going for). The system does not assume that you’re doing anything other than dropping your existing reservation to book the new one. It won’t keep any days for you from the old reservation when you modify it.

By modifying a reservation, you should not lose it until you’ve confirmed your new resort and nights. However I am not willing to make any promises that involve Disney IT.

If the new resort requires more points to book than your original 3 night reservation at your home resort, you will be asked where to pull the points from. But it does apply the original points against your new resort (so if it cost 40 points to book 3 nights at AKL and it costs 50 to book 3 nights at BLT, you’ll be asked where to pull the extra 10 points from.)

Modifying is all or nothing so you can not change only some of the 6 nights.

As mentioned, best way for split Stays is 3 and 3 in same room type at 11 months and change what you want at 7 months.

If it doesn’t work, MS can put them back into one. But they can’t split it after the fact.
