Hoping some experts can help with a quick question.

I have two separate contracts, one for BLT and one for SSR.

Would it be possible to book BLT at the 11 month mark using my BLT points, and then switch the booking to my SSR points at the 7 month mark?

No, you can not do that, unless there is still availability for the same view and room type you booked at 11 months.

It would defeat the home resort booking period.

Thanks for the help. That makes sense and seems the fair way to operate the reservations.

What you wind up doing is cancelling the reservation made with BLT points and rebook with SSR points. BUT, if there is a waitlist, you will have lost your reservation.

Not necessarily; I've been able to do exactly this, even when booked. MS was able to 'hold' the existing room and rebook it with different points.

Aonther Option is booking a split stay at 11 months... making SSR the 2nd half of your trip. Then switch from SSR to BLT for those nights at 7 months, if available. This is risky, if you have your heart set on BLT for the entire trip, but you can conserve BLT points for a future trip. You can always book a different view if that's the only availability at 7 months. You would still have a split stay if you leave the original BLT booking the same.
I hope this helps.

I've not heard of anyone being able to hold their reservation while making a change like that. I was under the impression you had to "cancel" that first reservation. :confused3

Are you the poster who tried to book and one night wasn't available? If so, did they keep your points set for that one night and just switch the others?

I had a DVC CM that said she could/would reallocate my points after the 7 month window without the cancel/rebook and not checking to see if there was availability at that time. I didn't take her up on it (didn't need to), but I think the CMs have the power/ability to do this kind of point reallocation. As I understadn it the SOP is to only do it if there is availability at the time of your reallocation request. But someone might get lucky with the uninformed CM.

I also had a CM tell me they could reallocate my points at the 7 month window without a change in my reservation number. I believe she said she could do this as long as I had not borrowed points to make my reservation. I'm not sure why using borrowed points would make a difference.

You need to have the points to swap in so they don't need to cancel. They just re-allocate. There is a trick to it though, so that the whole thing doesn't end up in the "look at me, I'm available" pool.

Nope, not me. :)

Like I said, I've never really had an issue swapping out points like this. The only major issue I had was this year, and it was because I was too lazy to walk one of my ressie's and I didn't get the location I wanted. Next year, I'll walk them all as I've done in the past.

There are 2 answers. As noted, technically the answer is no but you can often accomplish the same thing by using the SSR points to reserve nights open during that time you have reserved already and then canceling the corresponding nights you have already.
