Switching reservations.

I am new to DVC. I can book my home resort at 11 months out and then at 7 months i can just switch my reservation if available to a different resort. Is this correct. If the point total is more then i can make up the difference with points but if the point total is less what happens.

With DVC, everything is based on availability. It is wise to make a reservation at your home resort and then, at 7 months, if something is available at another resort you would need to cancel your original reservation and make another reservation at a different resort using the points returned to your account any other points needed for the new reservation. You are not really transferring one reservation to another resort, you would be canceling one reservation and making another.

With any cancellation made 31 days or more before arrival, the points are just returned to your account. If the new reservation requires more points than the original reservation you will just have more points to be banked/used by the usual deadlines. If more points are needed then you'd just need to have access to those points from banked/current/borrowed points.
