Switching points to a current reservation

Hi,

If my home resortt is BWV and I book at 11 months out a BW view for 2 weeks in July can I switch my AKL points to that reservation at the 7 month mark as my AKL points expire in July and I have my BW points until Feb (or could bank them).

Only if that same room were available to book at 7 months.

If you were just allowed to switch as you suggest it would be circumventing the home priority booking window and that is why it can only be done if it would be possible to make a new reservation with the AKV points.

As noted, no you can't just sub out the points. But you can often accomplish the same thing. For example, I have a reservation in a few months for a standard view BVW studio using my BWV points. I am in the process of trying to reserve the same option using non BWV points. I currently have 5 of the 7 nights reserved and am wait listed for the 2 remaining nights one at a time which gives me a very good option of completing the 7 night reservation and in effect subbing out the non home resort points for BWV. Fortunately these are non banked/borrowed points at BWV and early in the UY so I'll have lots of options even if I match late in the game.

I had a reservation for a BLT standard studio that had to be made at 11 months. Recently we bought a SSR resale with 160 points available for 2016. Since we had all these extra points we decided to see if we could book a 1 bedroom. Of course there was no BLT available but BWV was!

When I called MS to switch the reservation the CM asked if I just wanted to use the SSR points I said yes, I thought she meant for the difference. When she came back all of my BLT points were back in my account!! Now I knew this could be done but in my excitement in getting BWV so late (inside of 2 months) it did not even occur to me to try to do it.

So to the original question, yes you can switch points but there has to be availability at the time of the switch.

I'm not so sure about this anymore. The answer that "no you cannot unless the room is available" should be true. That said, we had some transfer points that were put back into our account when we had to leave the Poly early in January due to weather. WDW was nice enough to refund the points because all of us who lived along the eastern sea board checked out.

Those were BWV points we had transferred in to make the Poly reservation at 7 months. DVC was willing to, at the 7 month mark, swap some BLT points out for our December reservation for these BWV transfer points. I know that at 2 BR standard view BLT room was not available at that point. Maybe the whole scenario of refunded points and early checkout created some flexibility not normally given, I don't know.

I have found that recently, CM have been more willing to "bend the rules" in a lot of situation, unlike in prior years.
