Switching points question

I've got a question that I'm hoping you all can help me with. Last year, my father purchased points for our whole family to use (me, brother, sister, and our families). :thumbsup2

In March, we used points to book a Disney cruise that we will be going on in July. It took all of our developer points, this year's points, plus we had to borrow into next year's points. Now Dad has bought more points, plus we got more developer's points. :woohoo:

My question: Will they let us switch the points that we borrowed to the new points, or even better, the developer points? Has anyone ever encountered this situation before? :confused3

I'm planning to call our guide to see what he says, but I thought I'd ask here first. Sometimes you all know more than the guides do!

Thanks for any help you can give me!

You better call your Guide. My understanding is that points used for a cruise are converted to dollars to buy your cruise reservation. Disney Cruise Line doesn't accept DVC points directly. Its' like dealing with a outside company.

Right, I understand that, but I'm wondering if they could change the borrowed points that we used to the new points that we just bought. I don't want to change the amount of points in any way, just where they were taken from. It seems like it would just be a switch in the computer, but I'm wondering if anyone knows if they allow you to do that.

I doubt it. But even if they do, they will still be borrowed points, banking and borrowing are final transactions.

I will talk to my guide and let you know what I find out. They make banking exceptions when you buy new points, so maybe they'll make an exception for this too. It never hurts to ask!

They may be able change the points I'm sure but the ones you get back will be reservation points and not DVC points (much less regular DVC points). That would not help you in any way from what I can see. Maybe you could upgrade the cabin using the extra developer points.

When we added on the last time and had developer points. I called MS and a wonderful CM told me that he would reallocate my points and use the developer points. Call and see if they can do this for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Kritter--
We are booked on the same cruise as you--Oct. 11-18, 2008! At least for now, anyway. What's your "modus operandi" for cruising in October? Ours is that our kids have a short break then, and the cheaper rates (we are paying cash). I say at least for now, as we have changed this ressie about 5 times already! Things keep coming up & plans change. Also deciding if the cheaper rates are all that much cheaper to justify going in WINTER to get out of MINNESOTA--it is MAY and we still have frost warnings!!! UGH!

Hey how are you?? Come "pop" in on our cruise thread and say hello. We have a GREAT bunch. We have the Friday off before the cruise and Monday due to Columbus Day so the twins will miss six days for the cruise and a short stay at SSR before hand. We too are paying cash for the cruise. My TA has given us a GREAT group rate and OBC, plus groupammenitities since we have so many booked!!!!!!!!!
