switching hotels booking question

I am planning a family trip for January. My mom and I will be arriving on Jan 10, 2 days earlier than everyone else, so we can run the half marathon. We are going to stay at a value resort those first two nights then switch to a villa once the rest of our party arrives on the 12th. Can I book this all together as one reservation or do I have to make one reservation for the first room, then a separate one for the villa? Thanks!

It will require 2 separate reservations with 2 deposits.

Ah okay, thanks. That's what I thought it would be, but I was hoping there was some way I could get away with only one deposit!
