Switching from a Pediatrician to a Family Dr?

Around here a GP (General Practitioner) -is someone who is not residency trained.
Family doctors and Internists both do a residency.

My girls were 2 and 4 when their Ped. doctor retired. We LOVED him (He was my doctor as a child too) It was just him and the nurse(She was also the same from my childhood) He answered the phone,dropped meds off when needed>He was GREAT. But he got cancer and had to retire. He sent us to a new Peds doctor. I HATED this women.She belittled and made you feel like a bad parent. So left that practice and they now go to my Family doctor and they are great with my kids.

My DD only saw pediatricians when she was a few days old at the hospital. We all go to the family doctor. That's what my family did when I was a kid. If our doc is stumped on a problem, we'd be referred to a pediatric specialist or Children's Hospital. I like having one doc for the family.

We switched right after ds's 1 yr appointment with the ped. I was pregnant with dd at the time, and she's only seen our family Dr. (Well other than the midwife at birth and our follow up appointment.)

I switched dd at age 7, after she got sick AGAIN from being in the pediatrician's waiting room for over an hour when we had just gone for a physcial.

Our family practice Dr. has 4 kids of his own, so he's pretty comfortable treating kids, and stays current on everything in that area. We rarely wait more than 10 minutes before being in a private room at his office. We can also get in on an hour's notice, which never happened at the ped office.

Since I invariably catch whatever dd comes home with, I like that he can take care of us both in the same visit.
