Switching agents after final payment?

Hi, wondering if it is possible to switch from one travel agent to another after I have made final payment. I was wanting to switch so I can hopefully get a shipboard credit being offered. Thanks for any help

I do not believe you can switch agents unless your TA would release your reservation. In the future, probably the best policy is to find whoever is offering the best shipboard credit before you book your ressie. Sorry, I can't offer a better solution.

Thanks for the replies. I kind of figured that. I booked the May 12 transatlantic and I was so excited about such a good deal, I did not even think about shipboard credits!

You have two issues. First you cannot transfer a reservation once it is paid in full, and second, you cannot transfer from one travel agent to another. It is a professional courtesy between travel agents (that and the travel agency 'owns' your reservation so they would have to release it back to you and then you in turn transfer it to another agency, but again because you are paid in full this is not an option.)

Also once the booking is paid in full the commission gets sent to the agency that was on the books at the time final payment is made, because they're the ones that have done all the work for you at that point. If you were to transfer your booking to another agent (were it allowed) then the new agent wouldn't get any money at all for handling the remainder of your booking, so they'd essentially be working for you for free.

A cruise booking can involve many, many hours of work on an agents part. There's a thread on the board about a Royal Caribbean booking that had the 2 booked cabins separated by several decks thanks to an upgrade. Something like that can take hours to days to straighten out, and unfortunately problems like that aren't all that uncommon.
