I got a flyer in the mail this weekend about cable internet from our cable provider. It offers a deal for 3 months etc.. here's the break down- tell me if I'm missing something, before I talk to DH about it!

Right now, with HBO/Cinamax (have to be both together) we pay 76.00 a month for cable. I also pay $20.00 for dialup through another provider. For a total of 96.00 a month

DH and had already decided to get rid of HBO because the Soprano's wont be back for at least 6 months.

I called today- and if I take HBO/MAX off, my cable bill goes to 44.00 a month.

For the first 3 months my cable bill would be 69.00 and I would not have my 20.00 internet charge now. so it would be 49.00 a savings of $27.00

After the 3 months are up, the cable/interent bill would go to $90.00 but again- no internet. so the savings would be $6.00 a month....

of course, if we decide to add HBO/MAX back on, we would do so during a promotion (which they run ALL the time)....but my $6.00 savings would be lost.

Did I miss something???? I need my ducks in a row before I tell DH about this!

I got totally lost with all the math! LOL

All I can say is the cable modem is sooooooo worth it!

Just had to mention: new episodes of the Sopranos I don't think will start til January 2006! But there are so many good programs on HBO (Deadwood, Six Ft Under, The Wire), you should keep it anyway!

I don't know if this applies to you, but for Comcast here you have to have the Digital Cable package to get the cable modem. So be sure you look at those prices. We have the Digi package with HBO, hi-def channels and cable internet, I pay $120/month. The internet is pricey, but worth it for me. We also got Comcast's version of Tivo, so that's another $10/month. And don't forget the other charges like receiver rentals, etc.

Cable internet is a lot faster, but, do you have a cable modum box, if you don't you can rent one for $5.00 a month from the cable company, but after 3 months, cable jumps to $39.00 a month, plus the $5.00 rental fee.

I pay $44 for internet cable, plus $52 for digital, taxes and fees with no HBO or extra movie channels. We get the upper tier channels that has the extra nickelodeon and ESPN channels.

I think cable rates are just going thru the roof with their prices. We will be having another increase in Feb and also in June again. I cringe every time I write the check out.

I don't know where you live but that sounds about right. I know Roadrunner has been doing extensive ads where you get the 1st 3 months of internet for 1/2 the regular price.

Now I get digital cable + internet from RR as a bundle and it costs me $88 a month. (without HBO etc - with it adds $12 a month)

If you go with cable modem and then get voice over IP for your phone service you could save even more depending on how much your phone bill & long distance bill is each month.

It's not that wierd. I saved money going from dialup to DSL, and saved even more from DSL to Cable modem. They often have special offers too when you first sign up. Just make sure they don't charge you more when you re-sign up for HBO later.

I have digital cable, Roadrunner and a DVR from Timewarner, my bill is $108. I love my DVR and Roadrunner, I would cut off our cell phones before I would lose them.

lemme see if I can answer these questions-

Those interent prices I quoted, include the 2.95 per month for the cable modem rental.

Deadwood is not starting anytime soon either, and thats the only other HBO show we watch. If I want to watch a movie that came out in 1980, I probably own it.

We've cancelled HBO before, when Soprano's took a hiatus, and always are able to rehook up with a special.

We will still have Digital cable- thats your only option here....no basic service..just digital, so we'll have that anyway.

Oh- my bill- is for 2 receivers as well, with digital theres no way to get a 2nd tv hooked up without them knowing...as the digital signal has to run through their receiver.

I still say for less than 100 a month, cable and high speed internet is cheap!

We'll see what DH has to say

I didn't see who your cable company is, but we have Cox cable and their service is really good.:D
