Swine Flu

Uh-oh the first person to person transfer of the virus has occured here in Britain. It's getting serious now Mexico's not involved. I'm shaking in my boots.

I would not even go to mexico. I would cancel my trip and keep ur but here! Im not a chance taker. I would not go to mexico. This is spreading rapidly, and to tell you the truth no one knows what the real outcome is! Also, I dont believe the government on this situation at least. The government will only tell you what they want you to hear. So, im shure there is more cases out there than the government says on the news. They are trying not to freak you out with the REAL numbers. I also think that all we can do is be prepared. Stock some can food in your house and get anything you need just in case you are told to stay in your house or your school does close. I mean thats all we can do, is be prepared! Im not freaked out about it, but I am prepared for the worst, because yoy cant always relay on the government. Thats my opinon, i mean thats all you can do. I rather be safe than sorry.

I loled when I got to my campus this morning. There's flyers everywhere and a huge 'proper way to wash your hands' poster in the bathrooms. OH, and they're installing hand sanitizer things in the hallways.

I hear they might start selling face masks in the bookstore.

I'm really trying not to giggle right now.

My school has the same posters, plus posters that say "don't touch your T zone," and we've had hand sanitizer dispensers installed last year. Even if you think it's funny, what if there are kids on your campus that don't get the same access to healthcare as you do? They need to be looked out for, too. And even though the hand sanitizer dispensers were installed during the outbreak, they could be possibly beneficial from spreading other viruses.

i Think everyone is just overreacting.
and the Media is NOT helping.
it's just the flu.....You can die from the regular flu.
at least three WHOLE school DISTRICTS have been shut down till May 11 over like Four kids.
it stupid.
the only reason the kid in Houston died was because his family was here illegally and they couldn't get health care.

:thumbsup2 I couldn't agree with you more. People started freaking when the media started saying "pandemic" and "WHO keeps raising their levels." I know I did.

A school 15 minutes away from me has a case of it..I didn't go to school yesterday because of a bad head cold and everything asked me if i had swine flu..

My mum got this joke from a friend today:

As the two friends walked home, Piglet thought to himself "how wonderful it is to have a friend like Pooh Bear", and Pooh thought to himself "if that pig sneezes, he is so dead!".

Ok guys, really. I'm getting so tired of hearing about this now. Only one person has died of it here, and it was a baby from Mexico!

1- Babies' immune systems are not fully developed yet and
2- It was from Mexico! It was already sick when it came here and their health care is no where near what ours is.

You know what you have more of a chance of dying from?

-Getting hit by a car.
-Falling.
-Slipping in the shower.
-Getting electrocuted (IE: hairdryer too close to water, etc.)
-Having something heavy fall on you.

And! There are other illnesses out there that can kill you too that AREN'T the flu!

Pneumonia kills about 36,000 people in the US alone every year! And I actually got that a few years ago. But! Did I panic and go "ZOMG! I'M GUNNA DIE!!!!"

No! So just be smart, don't do anything stupid and breath! Everything is going to be ok!

My cousin has the swine flu. She lives in Fort Worth and was on the local news. I really hope it's not deadly for her.

This reminds of the MERSA outbreak from last year.

My friend in Cali. is convinced he has it, he has a super weak immune system so he's scared.

I agree with the statistics, but slipping in the shower does not cause other people to slip in the shower too. Accidents, though common, are isolated. Viruses, though common, are usually not.

I got MRSA when it was going around.
In the hospital.

Talk about fail.

I love how some people on this thread are being rude just because someone states their opinion.

There's MRSA going around in one of the elementary schools in my city, and last year my school had an outbreak too...pretty gross.

So it's okay for a baby to die just because it has a weaker immune system?

And I don't know where the heck you've been, but 2 people from the US have died.

Panic can actually cause symptoms. It's a mind over matter thing. Hypochondriacs (one of my friends is like this) do it to themselves all the time. They get it in their head that they have something and eventually they'll end up with something similar or they overreact to something much less serious.

I'm not sure where you're getting your information, but only one person in the US has died from it, and it was the baby from Mexico.

The baby was not an American citizen.
It's like saying that because you went on vacation in Brazil and died there, that one person from Brazil died there. Because no, you're not a citizen of Brazil.
(I'm using an example, I'm not talking about any particular illness).

I never said that I thought it was ok for the baby to die. I feel awful for him and his family. My thoughts go out to them.

And yeah, I understand that accidents don't spread like illnessness. All I was trying to say was that you'd have more of a chance right now of those type of things happening than catching and dying of swine flu.

IMO (and you may think differently-that is ok with me. I don't care.), there is no need to panic because of this one death (and as far as I know, there has only been one). When hundreds of people start dying, however, then I'd understand the panic.

She'll be okay hopefully :thumbsup2. Although people from Mexico are dying. people CAN survive from it. Most can actually.

actually I think it was 1.
