Swine Flu

A 23-month old just died of it here in Texas. :sad1:

The thing is tho, it was baby. And babies don't have the immune system that teens/adults do, so I don't find it all that surprising.

I do feel for the family tho. It must be hard to loose their baby that way. :guilty:

@ disney dork, very sad.

45 cases here in New York.

We are scheduled to go on 5/17/09 and will be flying from McAllen, TX. We'll be driving from San Antonio to McAllen so we have a double whammy to deal with. Everyone in S.A. is freaking out and everyone's gone mad. Schools closing and lots of events canceled. We've got a 4 year old that doesn't go to school yet, but we're afraid of putting her in a plane with other people that will most likely be from Mexico. I don't want this fear to cancel our trip, but do not want to risk putting her at unnecessary risk of catching this. My wife and I can deal with it, but do not want DD4 to possibly catch this. I don't want to panic or let this run or ruin or lives, but as anyone who has a kid we want to take every precaution possible to avoid this bug.

We're going to WDW on Saturday. I was a little bit worried at first, but I'm too excited to be worried! The news is advising to just use common sense - cover mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing, washing hands etc - just the usual. Hopefully we'll be ok!

supposedly a man infected with swine flu went to disney world!

Yeah, the baby was 23 months old, and was brought over from Mexico to be treated....
It looks like all the cases in New York seem to be in one little cluster, so if you are involved with the prep school, just be on the look out, otherwise, just ne cautious. :)

Two cases have been confirmed in MA, and our governor is going to speak on it soon. They are two brothers, 8 and 10 years old, who came back from vacation to Mexico with it. They don't think it has spread to their schools because they came back feeling sick and haven't been to school since they returned.

I think the cases in CA are in Imperial County and San Diego, it might have spread.. but it has even killed nearly as many people as regular flu! I would just calm down, and again, just be extra cautious. :) 2 cases in Kansas. :(

Poor thing. :(

It was a Mexican baby over here for treatment. That info isn't mentioned on many news stations.

So the pandemic threat level was just raised to a level 5. Level 5 is just one level away from a full-blown pandemic.

Also, Egypt is slaughtering all of their pigs, even though Egypt doesn't have any of the flu cases yet.

Uhm, yeah, so I changed my mind. I probably would not be traveling anywhere right now.

Good Lord! Overreacting much?!?!?!
They're messing with the circle of life man!

Eh, I don't think killing pigs is the answer. Doesn't this flu have remnants of the human flu and bird flu? What's next - kill all the birds and then the humans? Ridiculous if you ask me.

Whoah! It's officially a 5 now, 1 more 'til 6.
My mom said she's still going to Mexico.
I'm worried, but come on, what are the odds of my mom catching it? Besides, they might close the borders before she goes...she's leaving next Monday. It might already be a 6 by that time...
Oh & I think Indiana and Michigan have at least one case in each state, so next is...Illinois! So what better city to target than Chicago? ;)
It's bound to happen here anyway, O'Hare airport has hundreds of people coming from Mexico...so yeah, I'm expecting it.

its a mutated strain of the flu virus that we don't have a cure for yet.

killing pigs will not fix anything, but people need someone to blame. and in this case, they're blaming the pigs. its called a "just world" hypothesis and its a very common error of the human psyche.

it is often associated with "blaming the victim."

blaming the victim is like, "well i know sherry got raped, but sherry always wears really short shorts. thats why she got raped." and the just world aspect is when you say that because you think that if you don't wear short shorts, you won't get raped. even though its an outrageous statement.

just like, "if we kill all the pigs, we won't get swine flu."

There were police at my school today. Someone from Texas moved here and was feeling sick, so im guessing people overreacted. Idk what happened.

I think that may be a little over the top, don't you?

I mean, I can just picture this person walking around the mall when, all of a sudden, THEY COUGH! And then, out of no where all these police swarm the area, tackle the poor person to the ground and force them to go into isolation.

Just because someone from Texas feels sick, it doesn't mean that they automatically have the Swine Flu, you know? It's just ridiculous.

Honestly Twinks, I would just not be going to Mexico right now. Health officials are serious about this, it's not just the news inflating the risk.
