Swimming - what if it is only 50 or 60 degrees ?

Weather patterns this year - 2010.

Orlando weather: Jan 2010 in the 30's and 40's

We will be in WDW the end of March to the begiinning of April.
What if the outside temperature in Orlando is in the 50's and 60's ?

Would you still swim in the resort pool ?

Maybe it will be good weather for the parks and not a pool

Please advise.

Highly unlikely that it will be in the 50s in late March/early April. The current 15 day forecast shows high 70s/80 10 days from now.

Would *I* swim if it was 50 or 60, probably not. But I'm sure there's some who would. No one can make that decision other than you.

In 2005 we were able to swim at BWV with temperatures around 60 (hurricane Wilma had just rolled through). Steam was rising, so it had a bit of a hot tub feel. The water from the slide was a bath-water temperature.

2 or 3 years ago there were reports (speculation) that Disney had cut back on heating pools. Based on my experience, I think there might be some truth to that. So, there's not a chance that I would be swimming in 50 or 60 degree weather, but the kids... You never know.

There is no way I'd swim in such temperatures, but I live in FL and 50-60 is cold to me...lol.

The current weather is the result of a record setting cold snap. That isn't going to continue for the next 2 -3 months, nor is it likely to be repeated at that time (and even if it is, there isn't anything you can do about it anyway). This is not something to be stressed about.

It sounds like you'll be traveling about the same time as we are. You can see from my signature that we'll be going to the Keys as we do every year at that time. It's cool enough at night that we bring sweats and flannel shirts but it really warms up nicely during the day. We don't swim because the Atlantic Ocean is not heated, I'm afraid, but the Disney pools are.

As far as swimming when it's in the 50s or 60s, do you do that at home? It's such an individual thing so I guess that's what you have to go by. Have a beautiful vacation!

Our teen DS & DD do go in our NY pool in June when we open it up - but the water is cold to me, after a NY winter. I like the water temp at 78 or 80 degrees. My teens will swim (or at least float in the pool) when the pool water is 75 degrees.

Our temps in NY are around 70 - 80 in June.

So maybe our teens will swim if the air temps are cool.

Growing up in the Uk Scottish boarders and having just had three weeks snowed in I would swim. Heck I would still be at the parks in t-shirt and shorts lol.

We are going next week & really hope its warm enough to swim... they are predicting highs in the 70's so I'm crossing my fingers... although I'm from GA so I still may not be getting in... but maybe the hot tub!

We originally we planning to go this week and I'm soooo grateful we didn't with this cold snap! Better be gone by next week!!!

ha! i saw people swimming when it was 50degrees outside during christmas...I was like wow they are crazy..we thougth the pool was heated..no I put my hand in the pool and was like wow! they are crazy..lol..I get cold easlily so I was wearing long sleeve under my tshirt hoodie, coat, scarf to keep warm that week..

bur really i guess its up to your body! can you take that cold! but I believe in March/April weather is a lot better...so it won't be freezing cold like today in Tampa!

No harm in bringing your swimsuits, but I wouldn't swim if it was less than 75.

We were just at WDW a couple weeks ago. The pools are all open (and heated) no matter what the weather but the lifeguards go off-duty once the temperature gets below 50-degrees. If there are no lifeguards, the pool slide closes . Sometimes the resorts will pull the lifeguards at a higher temperature. For instance, the AKV/AKL pool slides were closed just before Christmas when it was 55-degrees while the Beach Club was fully open.

The Disney resort pools are ALWAYS heated. I remember being at the camp when it was in the low 50s and seeing steam rise from the pool. Glad they keep it warm.

REALLY? I thought the POP pools were very cold when we were there in 2006. But that would explain the Dig Site at CSR being warmer.

I'm betting at least low 80s when you are there. With the humidity and sun, it'll be plenty warm enough to swim. If not....we've got bigger problems

One interesting WDW fact is that at least one pool at every resort is heated to a balmy 83 degrees. You can absolutely count on the pool water being cozy. We swam comfortably in the 50s-60s in Feb 2008. It was chilly, but the pool was plenty warm. Being there in March/April will be just fine.

Yes! I have gone swimming at colder temps (and in a freezing cold lake). If the pools are heated why not?

I was there last week during the cold snap and there were kids in the pool at the WL. Of course, there parents were standing poolside in parkas watching, but the kids seemed to be having a great time! Actually, with all the rising steam, the pool itself almost looked like a hot tub. Most of the week the slide was closed and there were no lifeguards, but it warmed up a bit on Thursday and the guards were there and the slide was open.

50 or 60 would be downright tropical compared to that!
