Can anyone tell me if the swimming pools on DCL are salt water or chlorine? on our last RCCL cruise the pools were filled with salt water (understandably so) however this does make for somewhat of an unpleasant swim for the little ones. My daughter did not enjoy the pools at all. I am hopefull that perhaps DCL will not be the same. Thanks to all who have helped with my recent "cabin question" This is a GREAT forum!!:D :D :D

Definitely, positively fresh, chlorinated water. You'll love it. I agree - YUCK to the salt water pools.

Good news...they are desalinated! It will be like swimming in a regular swimming pool! Another plus for DCL!

And, here all this while, I thought they filled the swimming pools up with the ocean water, :eek:

LMBO!::yes::

Do they really have chlorine in them? I know the water is made from salt water (reverse osmosis).

I guess for public health reasons they need something. What most people don't realize is salt water itself is "chlorinated" too (from the chlorine ions in salt - NaCl froms - and sea water is almost 2% chlorine in solution, with other stuff like Na - Sodium 1%, Magnesium 0.14%, Sulpher 0.09%, ...,)

The three guest pools on DCL ships are all fresh water pools. They actually do use the sea water and treat it with a desalinization process, just as they do with the majority of the drinking water on board ship.

The only salt water filled pool on board is the Cast Member pool which is unaccessible to the public. Many other cruise lines do keep the pools filled with untreated sea water, though.

They are DEFINITELY chlorinated, especially the adult whirlpools! And for anyone who doesn't believe me, I have plenty of faded swimwear that I can show you as proof. Hubby once wore a new pair of navy blue swim shorts, and by the end of the cruise they had faded to a weird shade of orange. Myself, my purple shorts are now a funky tie-dyed-looking pink.

I read somewhere else that the Mickey Mouse pool is only 1 1/2 feet deep. Is this true? My 10 year olds will not have too much fun if this is the only pool they have access to.
Anyone ?
