Does anyone have one of those above ground pools with the pump? I think they run anywhere from around $300 to around $800 or so. J.C. wants a pool and I would love to have one to lay out in and these are SUPPOSED to last more than one year. I would love any suggestions on them. Is the upkeep expensive? How long have you had yours and how much did you pay? Thanks so much....oh and can ya tell its hot here today:)

We have one, we bought one last year at wal-mart it is 48" deep and 18 feet in diameter, pretty big, they make some that are smaller and not as deep, we also had one of those for 2 years. I can't remember the name this instant, but it is the kind where you just blow the top it looks like a big inner tube and it is dark blue, then when you fill the pool with water the walls just go up. My kids loved it, it was big enough for them to swim in it, and great for me to cool down, and float. It was around $500.
very easy to install, and no sharp corners.

And these lasted you more than one year?? Sounds like a trip to Wal-Mart is in order!

We bought one two summers ago that has held up pretty well. I think it is around 4 feet tall and maybe 12 to 16 feet round? It is a perfect size to go in and cool off in, and the kids enjoy it. We bought it because my work load is much heavier during the summer and I can't take off a whole day to go to the community pool. Now, I can sit at my kitchen table and work while watching them in the pool, and then I can go out every once in a while and get cooled off. We bought ours at Toys R Us and I think it cost about $350. The installation was kind of a pain since we had to level out some ground first. The more expensive blow up pools might be a better bargain.

We had a Doughboy above ground pool for several years when our kids were teens. We actually were given the pool free just for tearing it down and taking it off their hands, but we did have to buy a new liner for it as that usually doesn't hold up during a move. I think it was around $300 for the liner, not sure though and this was at least 10 years ago, maybe longer. It was 28', round, and they dug a deeper spot near the center. It was 4' in most places, but above my head (I'm 5') in the center. We enjoyed it for a long, long time but DH was the one who vacuumed it and added the chemicals so he got tired of taking care of it so last summer when the liner finally gave out, we ended up taking it down. I miss it though. :(

Oh, I think it averaged around $200 a summer for chemicals, and we had one of those filters with the white powder (can't remember the name) rather than a sand filter and it worked much, much better.

Good luck, if you get one for yourselves. They require some time and care, but they provide so much enjoyment too!!!
