My son is a pool maniac. He thinks every vacation must include swimming once a day. Do you think we can swim in January? Any resorts have a better chance of letting us swim in January? I remember going the first week in March, and we stayed at the then Port Orleans, and they closed the pool because it was too cold.

Kids are impervious to cold, as long as the pool is heated they won't care what the ambient temperature is...just wait at poolside with a Irish coffee...for you not your son;)

We've gone swimming in Jan at WDW. Actually, we've never encountered the pools being closed because it was "too cold". A month ago, we were swimming when the temp dipped below 40. Yes, the air was chilly, but the water was warm.

DS swims in january at WDW. I think it's too cold but not him! Just have a towel ready and waiting by the side of the pool and warn him not to get out untill he is ready to leave. If your room is not near by, have a warm up suit or other warm clothes to wear back to the room. We were very near the pool so DS just graped that towel and ran.

We have not done a water park in January because I thought getting in and out of the water so much would not be fun. We are going November/ December next year and are going to give it a try.

I'll just warn you..we are going Jan 21-28. Each year in either Jan or Feb (depending on when we go), the temp drops wayyyy down, Disney covers the flowers and shuts down the water park that's usually open. It has something to do with us coming down from NY and bringing the cold air!! Luckily, it usually goes up a tad..just enough so the grands can swim, and incredulous people around us say.."hey, you folks must be from the North!"

No DMRick!! That is when we are going down to AKL. We have always been lucky with the weather when we have gone, even in the not so warm months. Maybe the 2 of us can balance out. I can deal w/ 60 degrees.....

The pools that are less comfortable for swimming are the ones directly off of a lake! The contempary's pool's, Grand floridians' new pool, the poly's new pool, all the pools that are located on the beach have wind factor's and the much cooler when any part of you is out of the water. we found the poly's "quiet" pool and the gf's "quiet pool very comfortable because the buildings surround them and they block the wind! So check the resort's maps and note the locations for wind factor's.

MKY :D

mep319- here's another hope to offset DMRicks bad luck weather-wise. We usually have good weather. We went last January and actually had record temps!! Highs in the 80's. Now I am a realist and realize that it won't happen like that every time BUT...........we are planning to arrive on Jan. 16 and I am praying for our kind of luck again this trip. Regardless, I know the boys will swim every day. It's whether or not DH and I get in to the pool which will depend greatly on air temp.

How about all of us January folk start sending pixie dust for sunshine!!:sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny:

Okay adams66 -

from me, too! We will be there 1/16-1/20 and we need good weather!

We are also going in January. The 21-27 to be exact.

Hoping for lots of warm weather and lots of sunshine.

We will be there 12/30- 1/12 and hope for warm weather. So far it is looking like the weather will be nice for those weeks! I have my fingers crossed because last jan. we had to wear hats and gloves the whole time we were at WDW. We braved the heated pool at AKL a few times but it was just to cold to really enjoy it. We leave in 2 days! Very excited!

We just spent Christmas at the BC. The pool was 82. Still went swimming even in the cold 65 degree air temp.

:sunny: Please leave some pixie dust for those of us going in February. :sunny:
We'll have two water dogs with us and they will be in the pool no matter how cold we adults think it is. Can I get one of those Irish coffees delivered poolside at the BC or will I have to smuggle it somehow . . . that's a serious question, we've never been before so this may become an important question at some point. I would expect the nothing but plastic containers rule, is that correct?
