Help,
My travel agent just told me that last month Castaway Cay wouldnt' let you go swimming. Something about the safety net being broken. Somebody please tell me it's safe to go swimming there!

that's news to me !!
we were there on New Years day and everyone WAS swimming, including me. The water was cold but we were swimming....

We were just there last week and there definitely was swimming going on.

I spent my time on the adult beach but saw tons of swimmers in the other parts of the island too.

I remember reading a post not to long ago in which someone mentioned the net being broken and no swimming allowed...I'm thinking it durring Christmas week...or some time around then.

Knowing the way Disney handles things....they wouldn't let the broken net sit there long...before they were getting it fixed....I'm sure they were right on it.

We were on the 10 night cruise over christmas and were not allowed to swim. A storm rolled through the night before and damaged the safety net. They at first just said lagoon was closed just because of the net but we later found at 2 sharks got into the family lagoon. They wouldnt let anyone in the water. Supposedly at the end of the day they were still there. I would hesitate going in because the net was fixed. They made sure we were safe so they didnt let us in. They will make sure its safe for you. Have a good cruise.

Matt

Yes, it was on the 10 day cruise that the net was broken. They were out on jet skis most of the morning trying to fix the net. The following trip reports indicate that the swimming beach has reopened, so obviously Disney has fixed the net and ensured the swimming area is safe from predators.

As an aside, they called it a "predator net". A former navy guy said "Hmmm, that's marketing for you. We always called those things sharks nets".

Ugh....that's just what this shark-phobic snorkeler didn't need to hear. I KNEW I should have skipped this thread!

So do you think they like, removed them?!? :scared:

Disney is very safety conscious. If they had not removed them, they would not have reopened it. We too were on the 10 day cruise and missed the snorkeling, but appreciate Disney's concern for our safety first and foremost.

Oh my! I was freaked out after I read the thread about the sharks in Serenity Bay but this is making it worse. Now I'm hearing the Jaws music too!!!!!

dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum....
