Does your 14 year old daughter wear a one piece or two piece?

I have been shopping with my 14 year old daughter having her try on swim suits and OMG. Have the swim suits gotten smaller covering less or am I just getting old? :earseek:

I think it is Both....they have gotten smaller but I'm sure just like our mom's thought the suit never covers enough..

Luckily, my 17 yo DD prefers the racing suits. They are pricey but do look nice and cover enough.

My mom and grandmother always wanted me to dress skimpier than I did! I used to wear one piece bathing suits and a shirt over it, and they wanted me to go for 2 piece. I never felt comfortable until about 2 years ago, when I was 17, which is when I started wearing 2 piece bathing suits. It's so hard to pick one out though, because I really do not like those stringy ones and there's so many that are so skimpy. I don't want things falling off easily, so I try to find some that cover enough, and usually that have a strap, not strings.

Yes, to both questions.::yes::

The suits are really small. Maybe your DD would like the ones with the Cami type top. DD likes those the most. The bottoms are still pretty skimpy, but at least the top is covered!

My daughter won't be seen without those little swim shorts, or surfer shorts, or whatever they're called covering her bottom. She has a beautiful figure (size 0) but is very modest. You should see the "tests" she performs to make sure that she doesn't "fall out" of her top!!!

I don't know about the old part, but I have a 16 yr old and they are definatley getting smaller!! <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/12/12_3_121.gif' border=0></a>

The camp my daughter is going to does not allow two piece bathsuits. I'm happy about that!

Some good stores for trendy but more modest ones are Old Navy and American Eagle. I usually wear tankinis because I'm small, but my stomach isn't flat enough for me to feel comfortable in a bikini. Old Navy and American Eagle both usually have a pretty diverse selection of cute swim suits. Old Navy is usually cheaper.

I personally prefer string bikinis, but I did not own one until I was 18! While a lot of two peices right now are very skimpy, I do think the tankinis are a great option. I wear them when I go to places like Disney because I think it's kind of rude for me to walk around in a bikini in a family environment. But the tankinis are PERFECT for 14 year olds, because they're basically a one peice with the belly missing. You can get ones with modest bottoms though, you just have to search! I got a nice Ralph Lauren one from Macys last year.

Wow!! I am glad there are other parents with 14 year olds who wonder about the clothing for their teens...

Sis is 14 and a size 5/7.. the tankini's are great.. but she likes to ''lay out'' in a bikini... Thank goodness she also likes the surfer shorts and the waist wraps.

We went shopping last week..... I am amazed at how SMALL the clothing is for a teenager.. it is a wonder they all don't have complexes.. and it is no wonder they all look like like they have been squeezed into their outfits... ...... In Pac Sun, Wet Seal, the Largest shirts they have look like a SMALL... and the pants.. holy cow!! a size 9 looks like a size3....... I insist dd wear a large shirt and get pants that at least let her breathe!!! LOL

ok.. and what is it with having the bra straps showing all the time?? like with tank tops with spaghetti straps??

also is are the Flashdance days outfits coming back?? I swear I saw shirts that were slung on one shoulder in the last store we visited

The most important thing I have learned is....... WHEN LOOKING AT CLOTHES ON THE HANGARS........ I NEVER SAY SOMETHING IS CUTE.. BECAUSE SHE WON'T GO NEAR IT IF MOM SAYS IT IS CUTE!

AH MY LITTLE princess: .....

LOL, I wonder how my parents ever let me out of the house in my string bikini. I won't for my daughters.
When my oldest needed a swimsuit for school, she didn't have many options. She's tall so the one pieces weren't long enough or cover enough. She went for the tankini. The tank top and boy short bottoms. It covered enough so she wouldn't be harrassed at school. And it made me happy too. ::yes::

Yes, they are getting smaller!
My DD is 20 now, and she still likes the tankinis! And she loves the boy short bottoms.
Would that be an option for her?

My 10 y/o dd is 5' tall and really thin, about 83 pds. Her options aren't great either. I've found the one piece suits from Land's End are pretty good. When we go to WDW she usually wears her suit under her clothes. To make bathroom trips easier, she wears a tankini. In fact so do I. Used to wear a teeny, tiny little string thingie, but not anymore!!! No way is my 10 y/o wearing one of those little things.

Thanks for all the responses:
Our oldest daughter is 18 and she NEVER wanted to wear a swim suit. If she did put one on she put clothes over it.
Never could figure her out BUT our 14 year old is not like that. She has always had a one piece in the past. This year she wanted a 2 piece so she could get some sun on vacation. I am just sooo surprise at how much they almost don't cover:earseek:
I told her that she would only want to sun in it and not jump around or wear it to a water park.:earseek:
At least the 2 piece she picked covered more then any others she tried on. I think I will have her shop some more and get a tankini.
Her father will be much happier if she gets a suit that covers more.:D
Our almost 12 year old still like the one piece. Wonder how much longer that will last.

Do you have access to Costco? If your DD is in girl's size still, they are carrying very nice Speedos. I didn't see any in misses sizes the other day. Hopefully, they will.

Kohl's is a good store to look in, too.

Unfortunately, my 14 old DD looks like a 21 yr. old. She is almost 5'8" and wears a size 5 or 7. She is also a little short-waisted with long legs, so no matter what kind of 2 piece she puts on, it looks skimpy. One piece suits don't fit right because she is short-waisted. Every year it is a struggle to find something appropriate. We have better luck buying separates.

Ditto on Lands End. They offer tons to choose from. You can order and send it back if it doesn't fit. Check them out online or request one of their catelogs.
