Swim Diapers in Disney?

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that babies have to wear the swim diapers in the pools down in Disney.

So, today at Target I went looking, not sure that I'd find something for my DD (as she's just 3 1/2 mos & 14 lbs), and I was surprised that a pack of like, 10 was $10! I wasn't ready to spend that much because we aren't even sure we'd go swimming on our trip.

Do you know if it's possible to buy singles at the resort gift shops?

I know it will cost more on a per diaper basis than the 10 pack, but DD will not go swimming again till she's much bigger I'm sure, and would rather not waste the $$.

Thanks everyone! :goodvibes

I believe the rule is swim diapers or plastic pants....could be cheaper to just by a pair of plastic pants. You just have to make sure they are tight enough that water can't get in or out.

Since you go to target anyway- check out their reusabe swim dipes :-) They're 5 bucks and you can just rinse and reuse.
I cloth diaper anyway so that's what I did

Swim diapers are required in pools everywhere (I sure hope); except on cruises where diapered kids aren't allowed in the pools at all. We used them even back in 1995. It is worth the investment as a regular disposable would become saturated and explode (after it reaches a mass greater than that of your child) even with rubber pants over it. I do remember small packs of swim diapers being sold at Pop, but they were as much for 4 or 5 as Wal-mart sells the regular pack. Have a good trip.

You can buy a single swim diaper at the gift shops. I have seen them at every resort I have stayed at.

I'm pretty sure there is a big size range on the swim diapers. So if you bought a pack they'd probably last for a long time. I think my DS 19 months will be able to use the pack I bought last year this year.

Yeah the weight limits on swim diapers are pretty large. I'd get the pack for $10 and be done with it. I think swim diapers are the best invention ever. LOL!

I usually buy one pack a summer and reuse them - I rinse them out really well, wring out the water and hang them out to dry. My parents have a pool so we'd be going through a lot of diapers otherwise. :)

Swim diapers only keep the solids in!

It's only the solids that you have to worry about. Urine is sterile until excreted, normally. Poop, not so much.

If you're worried about spending 10 bux, then Disney's gonna be a big shocker for you, price-wise :rotfl: .

Better to pack them and assume they'll want to go in the pool-the pools at disney are wonderful, rather than shucking out 4 bux every time you need one...

It's not the $10 that bothers me -- it's that she probably won't use more than one. The next time my DD will possibly swim will be over the summer when she's 9-12 months old.

I don't know that we will go swimming on our trip, so I'd rather just spend $3 or $4 because I know that's ALL I'd be spending.

I can understand why you'd only want to buy one at disney. Id do the same thing. My Ds is 2 now and we hardly go swiming so having a big pack of swimmers is just money waisted...although I did find them on sale last year at walmart for $5 a pack and got a pack....I still have about 3/4 of the pack...but my DS isnt very big so I am hoping he will still be able to wear them when we go in September....(hes still in a 24 month clothes)

This reminds me of my first experience with swim diapers. Here is a lesson that you may already know - but I learned the hard way - I am so clueless as a parent.
My daughter was in a swim diaper in our little kiddie pool in the yard and she pooped. We brought her inside when we were done and didn't know how to take it off. :scared:  We ended up standing her on a towel and peeling them off her and the poop falling all over the place since the diaper turned inside out as we pulled it off.
When I relayed this story to our daycare lady she pointed out to me that the sides are tearable. :sad2:

We loved the re-usable swim diapers from iPlay. End caps at Target, most times. Terrific!

I saw swimsuits at target today. I am sure they have the re-usable ones. And if you buy it and dont use it you can return it when you get home for a bigger size.

The smallest size swim diaper (Huggies & Pampers) starts at 16 lbs, so your DD might not fit in them even if you do find them at the resort. Perhaps a reusable swim diaper would be a good investment. Although I think I had my DS in Little Swimmers this past summer at about 15 pounds and we were OK. The good news is the weight limit goes to about 26 pounds or more, so if you do buy them they will definitely last you through the summer too.

A few years ago when we had our little one at Disney, they did have the swim diapers, but often only saw M and L, which might be too big for your little one. If you need size small it might not be available at the resort.

Personally, I would just buy an AIO cloth diaper online. Sometimes you can find someone who has Disney prints already made, or who will make one special for you. Yes, they can be a little expensive, but then you could always use it as a diaper cover later too. Just a suggestion.

At 9-12 months she will probably still fit in that same size of swim diapers. I have swim diapers from when DS was 3 months old and they still fit him now and he is almost 3.
