Swim diapers and resort pools?

We are staying at BC the end of May. I know ds (will be 1) will need a swim diaper for SAB, but does it have to be waterproof? We use both disposables and cloth diapers and I was planning on making up some cloth swim diapers, but I want to make sure that I make them correctly so that he will be able to wear them when we are there.

Yes, they have to be waterproof and gathered at the leg/groin. The pool sign says the swim diapers (ie pull up type specifically made for swimming commercial product) or plastic pants (ie the ones that are usually used over training underwear). The reason for this it to keep poo out of the pool. I would just use your normal cloth diapers and get the plastic pants to go over them.

Thank you. That is where I was a little confused. Pull ups are not water proof. They hold the poop in but pee passes through them.

I use PUL for my cloth diapers so they are water proof anyway, but I have heard that they fill up with water if you try to use them as a swim diaper so I was trying to avoid that. I guess I will just use that and deal with him carrying around a few pounds on water in his pant

Not regular pull ups. There are some called "swimmers." I think that is what they are called. They are waterproof. There are two brands of them, Huggies is one I think. Please "splurge" on actual swim diapers. You can find them near the regular diapers in most stores. If a tike has an "accident" in the pool, they close the entire pool for a couple hours to "shock" it. It would be a tad bit embarressing to be the cause....

Yes, little swimmers are what we use for the grandkids. My 2 yo granddaughter is potty trained, but we still plan to use the swimmers on her because she still has a accident every now and then. She will not like it, but the trip is 4 weeks away and she just doesn't like to stop playing until the last minute -- though she stays dry all night? Hopefully she'll do better in 6 months when we take the cruise.

I agree, splurge on the actual swim diapers. After spending a few thousand dollars for a trip to WDW another $15 on some swim diapers is not a big deal. Besides it being a possible embarrassment, it would be a "major" inconvenience to other guest who also spent thousands to leave a pool for a few hours due to an accident in the pool.

Last July I was at SAB when it had to be closed due to a "poop" incident.

I was on the cruise in December and they had to empty the family pool, which is probably not a fun task while out to sea. Hous of no pool on the cruise ship is a major inconvenience.

my son is 2 and we used these A LOT last summer! Huggies makes them they are wonderful! when your done they tear off, quick and easy! They are run about $8-$9 at most places! I already have some packed for my May trip!

As well as irritating to other guests. This past Oct the main pool at CSR had to be cleared at least twice while we were there. I say at least twice because I was actually in it two days in a row when it happened. What was bad was that both times it was the same little boy that did it. You'd have thought his parents would have went and bought some swim diapers after it happened the day before. Both times the pool was cleared and remained closed for several hours while they shocked it.

Disposable swim diapers are the way to go. I have noticed that they absorb the pee, yet do not absorb the pool water. (I think that they become absorbant when activated by liquid of a certain temperature, body temperature..)

Plastic pants are a much safer option. I have had babies poop in the disposible swim diapers and it does NOT stay in the diaper. A tight fitting plastic pant holds the poop in MUCH better, which is why you use them with cloth diapering in the first place, to keep the pee and poop INSIDE.

This is from MANY years of experience. I don't use swim diapers unless someone gives them to me because they just don't work as well.

YES. This. Swim diapers by Huggies, etc., are definitely NOT waterproof. All they do is keep the poop from floating away in the pool. No one ever seems to realize that until you have the experience of carrying your baby and realizing they are peeing down the side of your swimsuit, LOL. At our local pools, they require a swim diaper with plastic pants over it.

I was a cloth diaper Mom, too. I used to use a FuzziBunz without the insert as a cloth swimming diaper. It's basically doing the exact same thing - not absorbing, but not letting poop float away. Fortunately, most Moms can tell when their little ones are trying to poop and get them out of the water quickly.

I have used the little swimmers for my children. They were not soaked through when they got out of the pool. Wet on the outside, dry on the inside when they didn't have an accident.

Never had this happen. Usually it's full of water(we mostly use them at the beach) as soon as they get wet.

As you can see from my siggie, my children are long out of the swim diapers. When they were in swim diapers, there were 2 different brands, the Little Swimmers and another brand. The Little Swimmers never swelled up or leaked for my kids; however, the other brand did swell and leak. I never had pee dripping or pooling with the Little Swimmers. Just my experience with 2 kids in them. My original advice was either the Little Swimmers or a CD with plastic pants covering. Why go with the Little Swimmers with plastic pants on top when she already has CDs and would just have the cost of the plastic pants?

I would not want to have an actually full-blown cloth diaper inside the cover, just because they get heavy. CDs these days can absorb some serious fluid. Some have hemp or bamboo inserts/liners. And some fitteds are nothing short of a sponge for fluids. It would just be better to have a disposable swim diaper inside the cover, or a real cloth diapering swim diaper. They're not that expensive, and honestly - I can't see the OP needing more than 2. You can wash them out each day by hand, and let them air dry. For those than haven't CDd, rarely (unless the child is sick) does poo 'stick' to the lining of the diaper - it just falls away. So they're easy to clean out. But for my own convenience, being on Vacay - I'd go sposie inside, cover outside.

ETA: I'd also go with PUL covers vs rubber pants. If it's hot, you don't want the baby to break out in to a rash. PUL is softer around the leg and waist openings and breathable. Very important for the time they're not in the pool, but wearing the cover
