Sweet Tea Recipe

Girl, to get some really good sweet tea, ya gotta come down South!
LOL!!!

Anyway, I don't make real sweet tea anymore because I'm trying to stay away from all the sugar. I just use Splenda in mine for sweetness (don't tell any of my fellow Southerners--they'd almost faint!

Well, to make good (Southern) sweet tea, I'd just boil about 2 quarts of water in a pot, turn the heat off, then put 2 - 3 family size (Lipton, Nestea) tea bags and a cup to cup and a half of sugar (maybe more if you like it really sweet!), stir it well, then let it sit for about 5- 10 mins. Take the bags out, and then stir the tea again. Pour it over ice, and enjoy!

Absolutely Sweet Maxine......no offense to anyone but I can never find good sweet tea unless I'm here at home (Nashville) or further south. Even when we go to FL on vacation it's never true "sweet tea". Most places have unsweetened tea which is nowhere close to "good tea". I make mine similiar to yours but I use 3 family size bags of Lipton and allow it to steep AT LEAST 30 mins and sometimes longer ..makes it stonger. We use one of the Rubbermaid gallon jugs so I'll use 2 cups of sugar to 1 gallon jug and 4 large tea bags. To cut back on the caffeine, I'll use 2 bags decaf and 2 bags regular. To me, the difference is letting it steep long enough. My mom and I make tea just alike except I let mine steep longer than she does and, not meaning to brag, I think mine is alot better. Occasionally I'll slice a few lemons and put in the jug to give it a different zing. I tell people I like my tea like I like my men...sweet strong and just a little sas to make it interesting! :rolleyes1
Shhhh.....don't tell my DH!! ;) :love2:

My sweet tea... DH says it is THE BEST!!! :teeth:

First, put one cup of sugar in a 2 quart pitcher.

Bring about 1 to 1 1/2 quarts of water to a boil. When water boils, place two Luzianne family size tea bags in the water and remove from heat. Allow to steep about 5-7 minutes.

Pour tea over sugar in 2 quart pitcher (pitcher will not be full). Fill rest of pitcher with cold water from the tap. Stir well until sugar is dissolved.

I don't let mine steep as long because DH and I don't care for "strong" tea. I think that teas steeped longer has a more bitter flavor, but to each his own! :) When this tea comes out, it is a beautiful amber color and DELICIOUS!

This is exactly how I make mine, and how my mom did and her mom, etc. I don't like to let it steep too long or it gets cloudy and bitter to me.

Okay, ya'll are making me thirsty this morning!

I'm going to take some pix of the azaleas in bloom this morning, and hopefully post them today. It kinda goes along with Southern sweet tea. The magnolias aren't ready to bloom yet, but I'll definitely post a picture when they do! That way ya'll can sip your tea, and feel like you're right down South!

For the ultimate (IMHO) add some crushed mint leaves!

YUM!

This thread made me thirsty! Off to turn on my kettle :)

Thats how we make it in Oklahoma too. Or at least that's the way my mom makes hers, and the way I make it too. But most places you go just give you unsweetened tea and you add sugar or sweet and low yourself. I loved it when we went to Alabama for a football game and all the restaurants served sweet tea, I felt like I was at my mom's.

In my humble opinion....it must be Luizianne tea. Somehow even saying Luizianne makes one more Southern.

Of course....I say the name of the state where I live....Jawja...

Luzianne does sound more southern, doesn't it? It sounds like some little old southern lady's name... as in "Why, I declare, Miss Luzianne, it sure is hot today here in 'Jawja'!"
