Sweet Tea and Sundrop

Another soft drink BORN in NC is Pepsi! You can't get that at WDW either.

Did any of you Southerner's miss your sweet tea and sundrops while at Disney? Started having withdrawals after a couple days. On our trip back home as soon as we got into SC we had to make an emergency stop to satisfy our week long craving! I kept thinking a little Pixie Dust would come our way and our tea would magically be pre-sweetened but it just never happened :wizard:

You waited until SC to stop for sweet tea? I hope you were flying, and not driving up 95, because you could have stopped long before SC for sweet tea. Contrary to the majority of the southern half of the state, those of us in North Florida are still part of God's country - aka "The South" - and still partake of God's gift to beverages - TEA WITH SUGAR IN IT!!!!! :teeth:

I'm southern born & bred, I actually think our Publix carries Sundrop. BTW, if Dusney had sweet tea it'd probably be that NASTY raspberry nestea they have at the restaurants on I drive! :rotfl2:

I moved from MO. when I was 10 and have to stock up everytime I go "home" I usually bring back about 2 cases. My husband a good ol' Texas boy thinks I'm crazy! But I love it and miss it!

I bet some of you would like a Mac's Livermush Biscuit with that Diet Sundrop for breakfast. IF we could only get that breakfast in the castle!!!!!!!!!

Bring on the Dr. Pepper and the sweet tea!!!! I had to make do with tea with Splenda in it. Better for me, but not the same.

Not a southerner here but they serve sweet tea at Liberty Tree Tavern. That's the only place in the world that you can get it. Last week, I must have drank about 4 glasses with my meal. I told the waiter I was so thirsty because it was so hot outside but really, I just loved the tea! DD drank her fair share of it too!

Gee, why did I ever change my ADRs. I'll know the next time to keep Liberty Tree Tavern on my list.

Yee Ha! Let me take a guess at your origin. In Shelby NC there's an Annual Livermush Festival (probably the only one in the country) could it be you are a Cleveland County Native.

I'll hang my head in shame we were driving up 95. But you have to understand as much as my husband was needing his Sundrop and Sweet Tea he want even stop for a potty break unless there's sweat beading up on my forehead and my legs are actually double crossed. :rotfl:

AND ICE!

In 99' I went to England with a friend of mine to visit his grandparents. He had told them how I loved sweet tea (had to explain about it being cold and having ice)..bless their hearts, they made me hot tea and put it in the fridge...it got this NASTY skim on the top...and I had to drink it because they were just so proud of themselves for making it :confused3

Couldn't agree more....it's 1000000000 times better than Mountain Dew. We can get regular up here, and diet in the 2 liter bottles, but have a hard time finding diet in the individual bottles...gotta drive to Shelby for that.

Pretty sure it's hendersonville or the next town over( can't think of the name) but you also have the best BBq place ever, a lttle place, little bit beat up but not bad wooden exterior, right out side of town, forget the name but it's a man and a woman's name . you go through the little "tourist "part of town ( past a big green rest. on the rt side of the road)and make a left hand turn and it's close to the intersection. if you have any idea where i am talking about can you tell me the name for next time ( we love that area... so pretty!)

btw when we lived in texas they used to drink hot Dr.P in the morning :earseek: ( 10-2-4)

I miss my Sundrop horribly! It's my FAVORITE drink. I grew up in North Alabama in a very small town. They made homemade Cherry Sundrop at the Corner Drugstore on the town square. We don't live there anymore, and I cannot get Sundrop here. When I go to visit my grandmother in Huntsville, I stock up. And I recently took my triplets on a trip to visit my hometown. Stopped at the Corner Drugstore and had a DELICIOUS Cherry Sundrop from the fountain. OMG, what a wonderful elixir that is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think it's Hendersonville, because I've never heard of that brand of livermush, much less ATE it (yuck)...and the only festival we have is the NC Apple Festival (Which is this weekend!!!!!)

Is the other little town you're talking about Saluda? And the restaurant...the only one I can think of that fits that kind of description with a man and woman's name is JoAnne and Jerry's....but they got divorced, so it's now just Orr's Family Restaurant.

Since all you North Carolina folks missed your sweet tea at WDW I just felt the need to chime in. I was pleasantly surprised at finding unsweetened tea at WDW. I can't stand iced tea which has been sweetened but I sure can drink a ton of unsweet. :) I was in heaven.

GASP! :earseek: Heretic!!!

Gee, I feel a song coming on here . It's a Small World Afterall ....

Gastonia is like the home of Sundrop and RO's BBQ is like the home of the Cherry Lemon Sundrop.

Well, at least Gastonia got something right! Hey, angelkisses, I see you live in Kings Mountain. We're practically next door neighbors! I'm between Bessemer City and Cherryville.

And I know they won't have Cheerwine. That IS something you can only get in NC and SC...nectar from heaven if you ask me.

Nope, we have Cheerwine here in Iowa. It's fairly new tho. They were giving out 20 oz. bottles at the local minor league baseball game earlier this summer as you left the game.

If you're really needing a fix and have a car I know they have Chick-fil-a in Florida. They do have pretty good sweet tea.

It's a lemon lime drink that has a bit of kick. Not as sweet as mellow yellow or mountain dew. It use to be you could only buy it in NC and SC but I'm not sure how far out its circulated now. Very addictive. Most people who do not drink coffee in our area have to have their Sundrop.

As someone who spent the first 23 years of my life in NC, just north of Charlotte (concord), I grew up on Sundrop and miss it dearly.

While it is a local drink to most North and South Carolinians, it started in Missouri I think actually, but the guy moved it to North Carolina to really get it started.

It now can be found all the way down in parts of Mississippi and Alabama.

Not to mention you can now order it online at www.sundrop.com and have any type of Sundrop shipped to you anywhere you are.

Also, just FYI, Cheerwine isn't just local to NC anymore either. I buy it down here in South Florida in the grocery store.(makes me feel at home in NC)
