Who loves it?? And how often do you have it? And what do you put on it??

I love it. It makes me feel like it's fall. I'm eating it for breakfast right now. It actually makes a really nice breakfast. I usually only make it at Thanksgiving, but probably won't have it this year, so I made a half batch this past weekend. The one I just made has a brown sugar pecan streusel topping. I have a recipe with marshmallows that I like too. It doesn't really matter to me. But I always roast my potatoes, not peel and boil. I think it gives better flavor and it's easier. No one else in my household will touch it, but other friends and family that are often at Thanksgiving enjoy it.

I think sweet potatoes are already "too sweet", so while I love them, I can't do the traditional sweet-based casserole. I usually do one with savory stuff - onions, peppers, jalapenos, curry, red pepper flakes, other root veggies, etc. Definitely feels like fall, though, when I start with those dishes!

Every once in a while I make a sweet potato purée which has a 2:1 skinned potato to sweet butter ratio. It’s basically a heart attack on a plate but no added sugar so it clears the diabetic hurdle 😉

We have it a couple times per year - my mom just made one last weekend. We top with brown sugar and pecans. No marshmellows.

Absolutely! Our traditional ones are cooked then cubed and browned in butter, herbs, lots of salt and pepper and a kiss of brown sugar. Perfection as a side for a turkey feast!

I like it. My son loves it, but he likes the casserole almost like a pie filling. But he doesn't like pumpkin pie, which, to me, tastes really similar.

So I make it for Thanksgiving as a side for him.

That sounds delicious!! I love sweet potatoes made savory also. We sometimes make grilled sweet potato wedges to go with burgers, and they have a nice savory seasoning. That's the only way my husband will usually eat them.

I do the classic brown sugar on top, but I take a bit of crushed pineapple and stir it into the sweet potato mixture before it goes into the oven.

My family likes it with roasted cut sweet potatoes and I do not mash them. Pretty basic other than that, butter, brown sugar, pecans, marshmallows. I also make one I like and everyone started eating that too so now I make 2. Mine is cubed sweet potatoes mixed with a little olive oil, black pepper, chili powder, smoked paprika and just a kiss of real maple syrup. By kiss I mean a tablespoon for the entire thing. I roast it in the oven (potatoes go in uncooked) until everything gets slightly charred.

No, thank you.

I like savory sweet potatoes (like a loaded baked potato). Never cared for the sweet sweet potato casserole types of stuff.

I like it, but I think of it more as a dessert item.

I think that's why I am liking it for breakfast too, there are some other dessert kinds of things that I also occasionally make use of for breakfast like a fruit cobbler or bread pudding.

I was thinking I should make some steel cut oatmeal and serve a bit of the sweet potato casserole over it for tomorrow.

I make a big dish of it on Thanksgiving as it's my daughter's favorite dish and leftovers are prized. I rarely make it the rest of the year. I use both marshmallows and a pecan streusal. I just stripe the top with both toppings.

Sweet potato and pumpkin are both served as a savoury item in Australia so these threads are always so interesting.

They are treated like a potato here - either boiled and mashed, baked whole and served with butter / sour cream (sweet potato), made into soup, or roasted / fried as cubes or chunks or chips.

Mashed it has always been popular as a first food for babies due to the texture and sweetness.

Growing up we had gramma pies which were like an apple pie with sultanas - gramma being part of the gourd family but your American pumpkin style pie is not a thing either in Australia.
