Sweet 16 celebrated with Mickey & Pals-9 days of TiW dining: Completed 6/14

You will LOVE staying at the Boardwalk. It's so much fun at night!:yay: We haven't done Kouzzina for breakfast but have had dinner there twice and were very impressed!

We've stayed at the Beach Club for a week so I thought I had a good idea of BWI. However, being inside the hotel and on the boardwalk early in the morning made me want to stay there and not just visit. :lovestruc

The Boardwalk resorts are so great, you will love BWI. Where is the other half of your stay?

Kouzzina looked good but shame about your food sitting around for a little while. I always think that the food never seems to be piping hot at Disney anyway - maybe this is why!

As for our split stay, the other 8 nites are at BLT.... we are super fans and we are not even DVC owners!

I think you are right... there is a limited menu at most places so they can probably pre-make much of it and some may sit around a bit before serving... :confused3 In any event, my dish wasn't cold - just not steaming hot.

Nice to hear a breakfast review for Kouzinna, we have yet to try it. The Boardwalk stay sounds so nice in August. I am torn with a late summer trip to my Mom, can't decide whether to go to WDW or DL. If we do go to WDW I am leaning toward the Boardwalk/Epcot resorts if I can get one with the military discount. On the other hand DL is my fav :) Choices, Choices!!

DL in August may be nicer than Florida in August. ;) Either one sure makes for a great vacation. Do you find that your DL trips are any shorter since there is really only 2 parks? Even though we have had APs for years to D-land, it still has not lost its magic!

:offtopic: My son had his eye surgery at Lackland AFB which is indeed where my DH did his basic all those years ago.

I've been wanting to try Kouzzina for breakfast but it hasn't fit into our plans yet. Hopefully next year. You will love BWI!

Thanks! I do expect to love BWI and enjoy all of the ambiance of a "seaside village" :)

More brill updates :thumbsup2 I have booked Kouzzina for dinner, but we could maybe fit in a breakfast aswell seeming as how we are staying at Yacht Club.

Looks as though there will be few of us around in August - we are at the World 17/8 - 30/8

Your reviews are awesome! I just love seeing how much fun you have with your daughter. My 13 year old daughter is also my WDW traveling partner. We take an annual trip every summer. My husband is happy to go once every 5 years! :confused3 Anyhow, just wanted to say hello and thanks for sharing. Looking forward to more!:thumbsup2

great to see a Kouzzina breakfast review though a little disappointing with your feedback on the food you ate. We are booked for our third visit but first breakfast this trip. I thought I would have a huge dither on what to order but now the skillet has been ruled out of my short list :)

I love your uncrustable meal lol! Our last night at BWI we were so sick of eating that we grabbed a kids meal of mini ham and cheese sandwiches, grapes and carrots from the BWI bakery and it was delish!

Hope you enjoy the BWI, we love it there!

Do you remember if the anise and fig french toast was still on the menu at Kouzzina? When we ate there in Oct I had the same thinking as you did, if we are in a nice Greek restaurant I do not want plain eggs and bacon :rotfl2: That french toast was to die for

I am loving your reviews!

My husband and I are going in Sept/oct without the kids and we decided to do deluxe dining. Almost all the restaurants we have ADRs for are new to us. Can't wait to try Grand Floridian cafe, Brown Derby and California Grill.

We are skipping Les Chefs this time - though we'll be there on our May trip. And having our favorite escargots :thumbsup2

Sorry guys.. too tired for a dining update tonight but I promise this weekend I will knock a few out!

We will be there at the same time. We will be at YC for the Steakhouse one night and Captain's Grill for breakfast on morning.

Thanks for reading! Glad you get to do mother/daughter trips as well. It certainly makes wonderful memories! :goodvibes

The skillet breakfast may be a great dish if it was served piping hot! I have my mind set on the waffles next time. Check back in and share your review!

Just finding this great food report and can't wait to read more!

Thank you Beka! Hang in there... more soon.... :thumbsup2

Yes, the anise & fig french toast was on the menu. I'll have to make a note that the french toast is so wonderful that I will likely not live to tell about it! :3dglasses

What a great time of year to go to WDW - and what wonderful ADRs!! :lovestruc So you are one of those people..... snail lover! :snail:

We stayed at BLT for the first time this past Feb and fell in love with it!:cloud9:

See... you know what a great place it is too! My problem is that we love it so much that I'm not willing to stay elsewhere. Thus the split stay - I HAVE to go back to BLT. :yay:

We own DVC at the Boardwalk and we go to WDW a least twice each year. We stay at BWV for Food & Wine trip (can't beat stumbling back to the room from Epcot) and we will now stay at BLT for our spring trip each year!:thumbsup2

There was a line for check-in at 50’s PT Café when we arrived a few minutes after our 1:30pm ADR. When we checked-in, I asked if Cooper was working (amazing CM from last April.) He was.... however, his section had already been filled so it may be up to an hour wait. That was fine with me since we were not really hungry yet and more importantly, Cooper was worth the wait!

DSC09165.jpg

We were seated in the waiting area for only about 20 minutes before my name was called. I was pleasantly surprised to see us seated at a table for 4 with the TVs. The last two times we had dined there we were seated at tables for 2 that were sandwiched between other tables.

DSC09170.jpg

We were welcomed by Cooper who said he was busy and would be back in about an hour! We are off to a great start! The large party that he was serving in the room next to us was hysterical when they saw him taking away hats from all the men that had failed to take them off when they came in to eat. He was putting them on the wall in the fruit baskets. Once again we LOVED his sarcasm and antics that kept us amused.

Our drink order was taken while we reviewed the menu trying to decide what to order. When the beverages arrived he threw about a dozen straws on the table. What to do with the extra straws?? I put them in the toaster that is sitting on the counter at the table – I thought they made a nice decorative touch – don’t you think so?

DSC09196.jpg

Cooper had Em set the table – she took her job very seriously and did it right. Had it been me, I would have rebelled and told him to do it himself! I wouldn’t want him to have the upper hand with the shenanigans.

Cool vintage looking TVs:
DSC09171.jpg

So… what to order for food? Honestly, this isn’t a place to go for stellar food. It is good - just not amazing. (Unless I just haven't found the amazing dish to order yet!) I decided to order a few side dishes. Green beans, mashed potatoes and the bleu cheese wedge salad. Em ordered the pot roast. I was hoping that she would want to split the sampler platter but she wasn’t interested.

While we were waiting for the food to arrive, we enjoyed watching the 50's era TV shorts. I am particularly nostalgic and love Walt's welcome speech when Disneyland opened in 1955. I think it is cool that it is incorporated into even this restaurant. So back to the food. It arrived rather quickly.

Em liked her pot roast; although, she prefers the pot roast at Liberty Tree Tavern. I had a bite and it was good - not amazing like my dad's pot roast but good. (The photo doesn't appear to do the dish justice because it looks rather blah from the picture.)

I liked the bleu cheese wedge salad with the bacon pieces and the puddle of dressing on the plate. (Perhaps a bit too much dressing but it is easy enough to scrape off any excess.) The green beans were a bit overcooked or perhaps had simply sat in a pot way too long – for my tastes. However, I still really enjoyed them. As with the pot roast, I think they tasted better than they looked now that I see that photo. And finally, the mashed potatoes with chicken gravy was ok – not fabulous – but I think it needed a piece of fried chicken to go with it! Yeah, looking back, I should have just ordered an entrée. I will likely forget that it was only mediocre food because the last two times I have just ordered these sides. Oh well….

Back to the antics….We had been reminded to keep our elbows off the table and Em decided to test Cooper by allowing me to tattle on her. Cooper’s response was to drag Em, chair and all, into the next dining room. I wish I had the entire thing on video because her reaction was priceless. The people in the other room asked her what she had done to deserve that treatment and she could barely speak since she was laughing so hard.

I had finished my green beans and mashed potatoes but not the wedge salad – it is really big! Cooper wasn’t going to let me order dessert without finishing all of my veggies. He speared the entire uneaten wedge and was going to choo-choo it into my mouth but I protested…. It wouldn’t have been a pretty site to have salad dressing all over my face! He relented and left me alone to order dessert.

They have pretty good dessert at this place so I ordered the Boston Cream Parfait while Em chose the hot fudge sundae. I loved the Boston Cream cupcake that they used to have before the menu change so I gave this version a try. I prefer the cupcake version to the parfait since it had too much fudge and cream and not enough cake; however, it was good. The fudge sundae arrived with a candle and a birthday card signed by cuzin Cooper. We reminded Cooper that he wrote a special birthday song for me last time – it was short. He said that he would sing the birthday song backwards to which he turned around and sang with his back to her. The sundae must have been good because she ate it all! I want to try the s’mores next time.

There was an empty tray that Cooper had left on our table. I stacked all of our dirty dishes and trash neatly on the tray. When Cooper next passed by he commented, “It’s about time you did something around here!” Perfectly delivered and perfectly sarcastic!

DSC09210.jpg

We had a chance to chat with Cooper once his section died down and many of his tables were opened up. We will definitely return since this is a favorite as long as Cooper is there.

Our bill came to $46.68 with $9.05 in TiW savings.

Next Up: Turf Club

My mom and I had breakfast at Kouzzina in February, and I actually had the marscapone waffles. Unfortunately, they were cold by the time I got them. I thought they were just okay--kind of like Eggos with marscapone. I think my mom had the French toast--frankly, I don't remember :)

To answer your question on DL, 3 days is the most for me at DL. There is so much to see in Southern Cal and having DL is a huge bonus for me! Your PT 50's meal photos look great. We are eating lunch there this Friday during SWW, I hope I have room for dessert, we always get brownies to go :lmao: We have been eating super light the past few days in preparation for our feasting, and also so I don't feel guilty :lmao:

We have had both good and not-so-good experiences at 50s PT. Since they took the fish sandwich and the grilled chicken sandwich off the menu and I don't really care much for any of the other offerings, we will be giving it a miss this time.

It's great when you get a server who is ready to ham it up though, it makes for a much better experience.

I'm really enjoying your reviews! The plant city strawberry salad at California Grill looks awesome - I'd love to return there soon. And I'm not normally a steak person, but the filet at Brown Derby looks delicious. :thumbsup2

Looking forward to more!

I've long thought about eating at 50's to experience the antics but I can't get past the mediocre food. I guess if I ever do go I'll have to ask for Cooper!

Oh no! There's something about their lukewarm food trend going on here... :scratchin Thanks for sharing that. I'll give it another try and report back. ;)

You just have days to go before your trip! I definitely run more and eat less before our WDW trips in anticipation of all the food that I can't say no to!

I agree! The server can make the difference between someone returning again and someone who writes it off their list because the food is not worth the antics.

Thanks! You have some legendary dining reviews around here - thanks for stopping by and reading mine. :drive:

If its the 22nd, I'll be the one in the wedding dress :bride:

Congratulations in advance! I will miss you by a day - we'll be at Yachtsman and CC on the 21st. :daisy:

Turf Club was a new experience for us. We decided that we wanted to try and eat at a few resorts that we had not visited so this one was on our list.

We took a taxi from BLT/CR to SSR since it was a really rainy evening and we didn't feel like being at the mercy of Disney buses because I'm sure I would have melted with a little water!

Carriage House - main building for SSR:
DSC09245.jpg

We checked in at the Turf Club Bar & Grill Restaurant a little before our 7:40pm ADR. The waiting area was combined with the bar which had sofas and chairs scattered around the room in addition to a pool table and TV in an entertainment armoir. It was an interesting set up since it looked more like a rec room and less like a bar. Actually, there was no actual bar but rather an alcove that looked more like it was a coat check nook.

DSC09259.jpg

We were given a pager and waited about 15 minutes before we were called by the host. Uh… why did I have a pager?? When I asked the obvious question, the host said that they had paged me 5 times. Hmmm, we were sitting 15 feet away from the check-in podium. Well… here we were now.

Yeah, I smiled then but the stupid pager didn't work!
DSC09257.jpg

And a photo of Em.. just because it's my dining review and I don't HAVE to only include food photos! ;)
DSC09256.jpg

We were led to a small table for two in the back next to a window. Sounds lovely right? In reality, it was a tiny table squeezed next to a four-top table for which you had to say, “excuse me, pardon me,” while you bumped into the people sitting at the other tables – there should never have been a table squeezed into that tiny space. I wondered how the waiter was going to deliver food to our table….. perhaps it was an acrobatic maneuver? Speaking of waiters, our server was Claude and he did a really good job.

Notice the bar menu on the table... order a cocktail, it may help make the meal more pleasant.
DSC09261.jpg

I'm still smiling because I haven't eaten the food yet.
DSC09265.jpg

The menu was limited and didn’t have anything that stood out as a “must have” item. I decided to go with the Roasted Free Range Chicken Breast ($17.99) which is prepared as follows; with red bliss potatoes, tomato, peas, fresh herbs and roasted broth. Em ordered the Turf Club Pasta ($15.99) which is made with garlic & olive oil. While we waited for our food, Claude delivered a basket of rolls with (apple?) spiced butter. The rolls were nothing exciting but they were a tasty start to an otherwise blah meal.

DSC09263.jpg

As for the food….honestly, my meal was no better than a frozen Healthy Choice entrée. The chicken was ok, if not a little uninspired. However, the peas, potatoes, and tomatoes were just dumped on the dish with no effort to give them some flavor or any artistic presentation. The roasted broth… I think that is a creative way to say it was a watery, oily, puddle of blandness. Where were the herbs that were highlighted in the description of the dish? Overall, a big disappointment.

Looking at the photo is does make for a lovely Christmas-ish inspired color scheme!
DSC09266.jpg

As for Em’s pasta dish, her complaint was that it was too garlicy. It was rigatoni pasta with spinach, artichoke, tomato, green olives and garlic tossed in olive oil. I had a bite and thought it was just ok – even if the pasta was a bit too al dente – and I like my pasta firm. Em did not end up eating much of this dish.

DSC09267.jpg

We decided to skip dessert since we were scared that we would be further disappointed so we decided to stop while we were ahead. However, our lovely Claude brought out a flaming cupcake for Em’s birthday with two spoons – nice! We split the cupcake which was the best part of the meal.

The seriously tasty cupcake!
DSC09272.jpg

The bill totaled $38.16 with TiW savings of $7.39. We can mark this place off of our list for future visits. The worst part was that I actually paid $18 to take a taxi to this place – what a waste of that money!

I confess, this was the most dissapointing meal we had the entire trip and I have been very harsh on Turf Club with this less than stellar review. I'm not normally so brutal in my reviews....don't worry, the nice Brenda will be back with the next review for Whispering Canyon Cafe! ::yes::

I don't know why but I kind of guessed from the start that you had not had a good experience at the Turf Club. I'll be honest, I've yet to see a good review. And most people I know hate the fact that SSR really doesn't have a good bar/lounge area that adults can enjoy.

Your chicken meal really didn't look appetising to me. Hope WCC was much better for you.
