Sweeping question and shoe question

Okay 2 questions for you veteran runners!

1. For the Disney Half, I know if you aren't keeping a 16 minute mile pace you are swept. So is that timed from when YOU cross the start line or from the start of the race? If the race starts and you are in the waaaay back and it is a few minutes before you actually really start do you really only have say 12 minutes to make that first mile marker? Yes I am nervous as I will be in the way back and getting swept at Disney World sounds utterly miserable.

2. I got some running shoes in February, my first real pair, sized at a real running store. They are Asics GT-2130 and they have been great for the last 2 months. I love them. However, today the insole has started slipping and sliding and it moves and creates a wrinkle that rubs my foot in a bad way. I had to stop twice on my run today and take my shoe off and fix it. What gives? I am not sure why it just all of a sudden has started wiggling around like that? Any advice?

Answer #1: The time for the 16 minute pace starts when the LAST person crosses the starting line, so it does give you a little cushion.

Answer #2: I would go to the running store where you bought them and bring the shoes. Show them what is happening after only two months. A good pair of shoes can usually take 300-400 miles, some more and some less, but definately should NOT be falling apart after 2 months. Heck, when I retire a pair of shoes from running I start using them for my every day tennis shoes and still have pairs from 2 years ago that I wear all the time.

I can try and help on the sweeper issue. The sweep time actually starts when the last person crosses the start line so, if you are middle to front of the pack (pushing worked for us) you have more than 16 minutes to reach the first mile from the time you cross the start line. Your chip will start timing you when you cross but the sweepers follow the last person. That being said, the sooner you cross the mile markers as close to 16 minutes (or less) the longer you will have before the sweeps catch you. I hope this helps answer that question.

On the shoe issue, I think probably your foot bed has been broken in or the padding in the shoe has broken in a little. My Saucony's have a really thick piece of padding behind my Achilles which is tight for about 3 runs and then conforms to my foot better. If this is bunching and bothering you, my suggestion would be to find some replacement footbeds at a running shoe store (gel, etcetera) that fit your feet, take out the original footbeds and replace them with these. Rubbing, bunching and sliding are just blisters waiting to happen. :scared1:

Good luck!!:flower3:

I think the first question has been answered but on the second:

I always put SuperFeet inserts in my shoes which require the removal of the factory liner. I have found that the stiffer liner does wonders for distance running. They come a little big and are cut to fit your shoe size. Your running store may carry a different brand but good ones will have a small plastic area under the arch. These will most likely not slip.

If you are happy with the factory inserts I would either follow Dana’s advice and take them to the store you purchased them from for repair or get some two sided clear packing tape and secure the insert.

Good luck.

I used to run in 2130's too after a lot of pairs of 2120's. I had the exact same problem. Plus, I didn't like how my heel slipped around in the 2130's. If you're looking for a similar shoe without all of the issues, try the Saucony ProGrid Guide. I'm running in that now and 200 miles in, I love it.

I read this over on the Runner's World forum a while back. 2130 insoles

Give Asics a call. They may be able to help you out.

Thank you all for the information! I appreciate the info on sweeping and the suggestions on shoes, esp learning that others have the same problem with this model shoe! I am going to call Asics. Thanks again, you guys are great!

I don't think I have your model shoe, but my asics did that, too, after 1 week. I took them back to the running store and they told me this seems to be a common occurance with my model shoe. Also, Asics doesn't consider it a defect. ??? So anyway, they switched out my sockliners with ones from a different model, and so far so good. We shall see, though.

I hope you find something out from Asics. I am with Amy that the Saucony ProGrid Guides are fabulous. I ran the half in January with them and my next half in a pair of Adidastar Control 5's resulting in 2 gargantuan blisters on both big toes (in the same places) so I have gone back to the old reliables. Love the Saucony's. If you don't get any help from Asics, rather than trash the shoes, I would try the footbed suggestions. Best of luck. :goodvibes

just checked my shoes and they are indeed the GT 2130. It's that darn sockliner inside. They are smooth on the bottom, so they slide. I couldn't believe it when they told me that Asics doesn't consider it a defect. SO many people have this issue and it's...not a problem?? If your running store can't fix it perhaps, you can just put in a new insole...

btw, I was debating between these and the nike triax, if you were looking for something else to consider...
