Sweater in August?

I say no. We try to go bagless and I prefer not to have something around my waist. To me, sometimes the AC doesn't seem cool enough with the heat and humidity.

We go every August and I always pack a sweater, but never use it.

I would bring one. We've had some very wet evenings and I think it gets chilly when it rains for a few hours. We were at DTD last Saturday night in the rain and I was freezing sat in Cookes of Dublin. I would pack one and then see how you feel - beats having to buy one when you're there!

Excuse me for not being one of "the ladies" ;) but I am an old dude that used to never get cool enough, but now am freezing about 5 months out of the year (yes, including the damn grocery store--sheesh!) However, at WDW I am so grateful for air conditioning to get some relief from the heat & humidity. The idea of a sweater is :faint: I used to say to my family as we passed through Norway gift shop, how many people can shop for $300 sweaters at WDW? Yes, they were beautiful but the thought of even looking at a thick wool sweater in the central Fla. heat?

Thank you all so much for the replies! I think I might carry a light sweater the first day and see how it goes after that. I hate the feeling in the summer of going into A/C and feeling cold. The worst is the supermarket!

That's a good plan! I usually take a light sweater myself - going from extremely hot and humid into frigid A/C is hard. As someone else said, it's even worse if you've gotten rained on! I remember eating dinner at Yak and Yeti one afternoon, and being so grateful I had a sweater with me!

Oh my gosh, we just got back late last night. It was so hot and humid, every day, everywhere. The air conditioning in many places could not even keep up. Even those of us in my group that are sensitive to over-air conditioning were more than comfortable in tank tops in restaurants at night. There were a few of us who carried a sweater the first night - it was never repeated after that.

Unless you live in Death Valley, I don't see how you could get cold in Disney in August. It's typically so hot that I'm actively seeking out a place with frigid AC just to bring my body temperature back down to normal levels.

To you ladies out there.... I'm leaving next week and was wondering if I should carry a light sweater with me to the parks for indoor rides and restaurants? Does anyone find themselves being chilly when going into AC after the extreme heat?

My husband takes at least one extra T shirt with him for changing into after being in the sun all day. That's what I use if I need to inside an attraction. But - if we have a lunch reservation at an indoor table service place, I take something with me. Here at home in the Atlanta metro area, anytime we go out to eat, I take a sweatshirt with me.

As a local I get frozen every time I walk into anything air conditioned in the summer. We locals need a sweater whenever it gets below 75. I love the summer weather here. I live 25 miles from the mouse and the weather is in the high 80s low 90s all day and down to 75 at night. The humidity is in the 80s and above. That is absolutely perfect for me. But I completely understand how it could be considered very hot for someone who comes from the snow country. Previously I lived in Arizona and Las Vegas. I don't think it gets hot in Florida at all. Medium at the most.

Sweater no, but a light cardigan, bolero or shawl thing yes.

I am not a cold person, but still plan my outfits so that I bring one cardigan or bolero made of think cotton that matches most. Not a think material but thin cotton that fits in my small crossover ( amazing how small thin material roles up).

i find the buses and some rides can be super chilly. One year I got sick ( beg. sept trip) severe sinus infection, cold the whole package.. I remember riding Livin in the land and thought I was going to die! Cold drafts came out of nowhere. I wrapped my cardigan around my head to cover ears, and neck.. People thought I was crazy but I really felt the AC here. Also the buses can be super cold. Especially if you are wet and get on one.

for DD and I its a cardigan for DS I pack a long sleeve shirt as a back up that he can put on. These are the same tops we wear on the plane or from home ( where it's colder).

Thicker material I would say NO WAY. and IF by some freak of nature it got down to lower 60's/70's at night end of Aug/begin Sept. then it's a quick trip to target , rental or cab.

Nope. In August, it's HOT, & the ac will feel good. I live in South Louisiana, we have similar weather here as in Disney. I never need a sweater at home in August nor at Disney.

South LA girl here also, but I still like to have a light sweater with me for restaurants - just in case!! I really 'hate' eating when I'm chilled. Some restaurants are just perfect - others will freeze you out - especially if you happen to be under a strong vent also. :)

I always bring a light cotton sweater with me. I am fine in the stores and rides but I always freeze in the restaurants. It is also handy if you get soaked and then end up in the AC.

I always bring a sweater or hoodie around town with me, because the air conditioning can get to me in movie theaters, restaurants, and the subway - but I go to Disney in October and can't imagine needing it there!

I feel cold when most people feel hot. That said, we were there in July and it was often intolerably hot. Most air-conditioned rides, stores, buses, and restos were wonderful, BUT if in a restaurant or store for an extended period of time, I would get cold. Specifically in Teppan Edo, the kids and I felt too cold. A thin cardi or an overshirt would have been great in that instance. Is it worth schlepping it around all day for that rare time it's too cold? I don't know.

I always bring a light cover up. I'm always surprised how cold some queues, shops, restaurants, can be. Especially if it's hot outside causing you to sweat then you go indoors and the sweat practically freezes!! Better safe than sorry. :cold:

Another YES!! I always carry a very lightweight running jacket (make sure it's "breathable")..... only exception is if I know for sure I'm only hitting a park for a couple hours or Animal Kingdom. I even had it with me over July 4th when it was 98 degrees!!!! The air conditioning is frigid! Wore it on things like Great Movie Ride, Rock n' Roller C, Haunted Mansion, Soarin' etc.

Me. It can be 95 degrees and humid here in Michigan and I'll get home and walk in the door (where DH has been home all day) and the first thing I do is turn the temp up because he's got the AC at 72 and I'm FREEZING.

Your internal body temp is off.

I am sitting here at work right now with a heater going. I sit at home with a blanket on me all summer.
But I've never wanted a sweater at Disney in August. I never felt the indoors felt too cold, probably because it was simply so hot outside.
